Re: 2019/20 Australian International summer
Before Carey got out Australia were cruising at 2/124 in the 16th over needing 35 from 28. Then the collapse came as the Aussies lost 4/19 in 3.5 overs and within that lost 3/5 in 1.3 overs. Lots of work to do to sort out that middle order.
Meanwhile Australia A are in a big hole against the England Lions.
Aus A were 5/103 at stumps, trailing by 325 as the Lions made 428.
Aus A scorecard-
Harris 6
Khawaja 30
Maddinson 1
Patterson 11
Henriques 25
Inglis 13*
Wildermuth 11*

Yeah, besides Warner, we don't really have any power hitters, not that he could be put in that category last night.
Definitely need D'Arcy Short or or Maxwell in there at the expense of Wade and Marsh.
I love Carey and I love the fact that we have 3 South Aussie's in there but I do think they put him on a pedestal, he deserves his spot no doubt, he's not a number 4 batsman though, I'm not sure that he warrants being VC either.

Warner and Finch are the main 2 power hitters and then obviously the selectors want Marsh to be that middle order power hitter. I suspect he might be replaced by Short for the next match. Not having Maxwell there due to injury shows how important he can be. Andrew McDonald said Carey batted 4 to combat Shamsi as he's the best player of spin. He's been a bit of a floater in T20s so not sure where his best spot is at the moment, I like him at 6.

I wonder why Lehmann wasn't included for the 2nd match?
Fat load of good it has done for Khawaja, Maddinson, Harris, Moises, Neser or Bird.

I disagree, it has benefited Australian cricket greatly, ensuring none of those you mentioned are ever picked for Australia again

Strange decision, even Finch seemed to think it was strange when he was awarded it.Dutchy wrote:Finch
Both Wade and Marsh were promoted above Smith but failed to really capitalise although Smith was lucky after being bowled by Rabada off a no ball.

Zampa 5/56 (9) @ 11.2 (Econ 6.2)
It makes no sense at all, I guess they didn't want to hear the booing if Smith or Warner won it, Agar trumps them all IMO.

Re: 2019/20 Australian International summer
Not surprising when they are playing that hack Short as a number 7
Mitch Marsh is not much chop either
Carey would want to start scoring some runs
I’d put Maxwell and Head in for Short and Marsh

Re: 2019/20 Australian International summer
It’s our top 5 that is the problem. Huge over reliance on Warner and Finch to get off to a flyer as Smith and Labuschagne are just happy to knock them around. When Smith got out we needed 7 an over from the last 15 and you can’t expect Carey, Short and the bowlers to get it done.Armchair expert wrote:Not surprising when they are playing that hack Short as a number 7

The coaches are just too stubborn to change tactics and we are getting left behind.

This, I've been saying it for a bit, these two cannot both play in an ODI together, they value their wicket too much and will be out there too long, teams will just negate them and let them score their 60 off 75-80 balls, the game has evolved where anything less than 5.5 an over is easy money.
Why wouldn't we have had Short, Carey, Marsh at 5,6,7? In that 11 I'd have Short at 3 or 4, definitely wouldn't have had Smith and Marnus so close together.
Marsh going in at 5 was made siller as the Saffers had just been bowling to a right hand combo for the previous 18 overs when Carey and Short are both left handers?
I like your thoughts on including Maxwell and Head but I don't think we can afford to drop Marsh, I like having the 4th quick in there, especially given his batting ability, I'd leave Marnus out, elevate Short to 3 or 4, Maxwell at 5 or Head if he's still unavailable.
Our side looks pretty good, just some tweaking.

Re: 2019/20 Australian International summer
South Africa v Australia second ODI on now.
Aus 3/86, Smith (13) and then Labuschagne were out in successive deliveries both hitting the ball cleanly but straight to mid wicket and then backward point. Ngidi has all 3 wickets and becomes the fastest South African to 50 ODI wickets. Short was listed at 7 but has come in at 5. Finch is 34*
