Re: ASCA
Anyone seen much of Section 1 this year, if so how is the standard looking?

Re: ASCA
Section 1 is certainly not as strong as last season with the top teams all losing quality players. Glenelg have beaten 3 good sides already so could possibly do the same as Sharks and win sec 1-2 on the bounce. Definitely not as strong as Sharks were last season but as I I said earlier neither is sec1 in general...

Been retired 9 years.
No intensity in the field or batting, looked like a casual game not what Section 1 felt liked, bowling looked pedestrian ( champion that he is, the bloke who was opening for the A grade when I was playing still is today ), general look of the players was a bit hap hazard, as in shirts not tucked, black sneakers, hats of all different colours. We once prided ourselves on presenting as a team, didn't quite look the same.
Speaking to some club stalwarts who haven't played for 20 years but still watch most weeks, the comp isn't anywhere near what is once was but that's no surprise, hard to get people into and keep them into cricket nowadays.

The average age of players through most of the grades would be north of 30 I would imagine.
Very hard to keep youngsters involved for various reasons, it's just the stalwarts making up the numbers.
I think cricket in this state is not in a healthy position. Possibly ASCA may have to look at reducing Sect 1 to 60 overs or one dayers through all grades every round.

The PDCA has fallen a fair bit too mate, Grade 1 is still a good standard but Grade 2 starts falling to the wayside after the top couple of teams.
I watched a couple of Grade 2 matches last year and the bowling was crafty, but very pedestrian, it would've been equivalent to Grade 5 half a dozen years ago.

100% - it's a very ordinary standard, and it continues to drop away drastically through the grades.
Every side in Grade 2 seems to have one or two blokes who can bat a bit, one main strike bowler (most times the bowler is also the main bat) then the rest are hit/miss and making up numbers.
Fielding standard is poor.
Dress standard is poor.
Umpiring is poor.

Pretty average from Happy Valley on the weekend to try and pick up a forfeit at 12.50 when week 1 was called off in section 2.

I'm assuming the day was abandoned due to the weather, probably by 12:30 or so, then as their opponent didn't have the numbers for a side they tried to get a forfeit.

We had 6 there at 12.50 (start time 1.30) when the day was called off (obviously too wet) and becomes a one day game this week. They wanted the forfeit win and were very serious about it.
