Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley is excited about the club’s highly rated draftees, expecting them to play senior footy in 2020.
Making four picks in the top 25, the Power landed Miles Bergman out of Sandringham, Mitch Georgiades out of Subiaco, Dylan Williams from Oakleigh and Jackson Mead of Woodville-West Torrens.
While the senior coach admits he hasn’t seen a great deal of what they can do just yet, Hinkley says the expectation is they have an immediately impact.
“Last year we didn’t expect come Christmas that the three boys (Connor Rozee, Xavier Duursma and Zak Butters) would play 60 games of football, but you don’t really get to see much of them before Christmas,” he told SEN SA Breakfast.
“Now we’ll get to see what they can do and even yesterday in our running stuff we’ve seen that those young boys run unbelievably well, so that’s a great start.
“We know that Bergman and Georgiades can certainly play a bit at the top end already and Williams is more of a wildcard of the first rounders, but you draft first rounders knowing that they play in their first year.
“So I expect them all at some stage to play.”
On the other side of the coin, Hinkley adds that Port Adelaide’s veterans are all looking good at this early stage of summer.
“Charlie Dixon is training well and is in a good space, but it’s not just Charlie, Robbie Gray is training as well as I have seen so that is really important for us,” he said.
“We’ve got Brad Ebert out there, Hamish Hartlett, Tom Jonas, the five boys that have been here the whole journey with me have been critically important to us, Justin Westhoff is another one, they understand their responsibility, but all of them are doing what they can to be in good shape.”

Statistically, last year was his best year by a comfortable margin.
I still rate his AA years of 2013-14 to be better, largely based on the impact he had on the contest. During those years, he was either the catalyst in us murdering opposition midfields, or the igniter when we needed someone to stand up and have a big 5-10 minutes to get us back into a game - case in point R3 2013 vs. Adelaide.
His best football has been played in the middle, without question.

Good response, I gave you too much credit, i'll dumb it down for you. When he plays midfield he shakes hands with the opponent at the start of the game and that's the last they see of each other, when he plays forward someone will be trying to stop him getting a kick. Therefore easier to get a kick in the midfield. How did I go, comprehend???

I lived in Port Augusta for 13 months back in 2010-11 and i coached an under 14's side... There was some exceptional aboriginal talent in the team. But i was baffled when i said to the higher ups them and i was pretty much told that they won't go anywhere because of their up bringing... Which never sat well with me... One of the kids i coached was the best junior ive seen play at that age EVER!!! If i had the money i and the resources and probably the smarts i would love to set up a program not to dissimilar to above which gives these kids a fair go...Not just aboriginal kids but all kids in these rural area to give them at least a chance to have a real crack at their dream....
Unfortunately what i was told happened and that lad barely plays anymore

Had the pleasure of working on a few programs with Vanders over the years and as you said absolute legend of a bloke who has a track record in delivering impactful programs.
His future successor Ross Waite is made of the same cloth.

Played 2 seasons of footy with him when he finished basketball. Can not meet a nicer bloke.

Ok, I kind of just read a AFL statement saying at this stage it's still as scheduled? One would suggest unless the virus is killed of quickly and contained in the next few weeks that it will be called off.
Surely common sense will prevail at some point.

Agreed, they'll no doubt monitor the situation but I'd hasten a guess that it would be unlikely they'd head over there at this point.
With 4 months to the game I doubt they'd be calling it off just yet though.
