I wonder how much these clubs are given by the AFL to pay players? Would the reason why the AFL wants to see the SANFL lower the salary cap be to drive more players into the NEAFL to a)increase the profile of the sport in this area and b)lower the cost to the AFL in the NEAFL.

There is no logical reason for a player to play in the NEAFL especially if they have aspirations of being redrafted

My observations were that Andrew Moore absolutely bought in to playing for North when dropped from the Power whereas Aaron Young didn't seem to. Hence North have recruited Moore and not Young.
Only my observation and not necessarily the thoughts of anyone at the club.

Nothing would surprise me . It may seem far fetched but we are talking the AFL .

Not buying this theory. Not sure if Pokies are only in sporting/community clubs over there but that would generate good cash as opposed to them being in every suburb over here. I agree the AFL would probably invest more into grassroots up there to try and achieve the domination they desire.

17.2Total Player Payments Non AFL-Clubs shall be bound by the following TPP limits based on eighteen (18) home and away rounds:
(a)A Base Maximum of $225,000.
(b)In addition to Rule 17.2(a)above, Clubs will be eligible to spendup to a combined total of $50,000 for two players who are deemed (by the AFL) to be ‘Marquee Players’.
(c)In addition to Rule 17.2 (a) and (b) the Canberra Demons will be eligible to spend an additional$75,000 to assist in recruitment and retention of talent into Canberra.
(d)A Club may apply to have coaching payments for their head playing coach excluded from the TPP so long as that Club cans ubmit two separate contracts to the AFL –one for coaching and one for playing. However, as a minimum,at least 20% (for playing 18 matches) of their total payments will be included in the TPP.
(e)Total Player Payments in respect of each finals match appearance by the Club’s competition team shall be the salary cap total(base + marquee)divided by the number of Home & Away Matches, plus 10% for finals match incentive payments.

On face value non AFL clubs have more salary under cap than SANFL club

But one of those 4 recruits for us is probably our best of the past decade. Daniel Menzel will be fantastic for younger players like Corey Durdin, East, Dew, Presbury. And he'll be playing alongside his brother.

But one of those 4 recruits for us is probably our best of the past decade. Daniel Menzel will be fantastic for younger players like Corey Durdin, East, Dew, Presbury. And he'll be playing alongside his brother.

We may yet pick up a couple who are available as the VFL are not running a Reserves comp this year, so some lads looking for a home.
However, these wouldn't be top end.
I believe we have 5 top line SANFL players (2 Schillers, 2 Menzels and Hoskin) which falls short of 7 or 8 circa Glenelg this year and Norwood and Sturt of recently passed Premiership sides.
Needing Pres, Fort and youngsters like Durdin, East, Robinson, Marsh and PAtterson to step up to be at the top end of the table.

You would imagine their top end talent would get a lot of the cap with the locals being worth bugger all, more so than SANFL players

Basically hoping for improvement then as the list is no stronger than last season.
Jyden Neagle replaced by Dan Menzel .
We don't have a ruckman or a key forward so going to need massive improvement from somewhere.

Centrals have done better than the Eagles in the recruiting stakes so far in grabbing an ex-AFL player who you can expect will have a very strong season next year. I expect Eagles will fall one or two places next year as we will be heavily dependent on our juniors stepping up.

Realistically any more than 12 games out of him is a bonus. It's reported he's over his injuries but I think Centrals need to err on the side of caution. Played 6 NEAFL and 7 AFL games this season.

Yes, a big lad from up north, won't join us until the season up there is over in Feb, about 193cms & 95 kgs,
