Exactly my original point, some clubs would like to offer more but don't have lucrative incentives outside of the football department to offer so are restricted in terms of recruiting. A bump in the cap could lure an ex SANFL player on match payments alone.jo172 wrote:In my view the Goldsack recruitment drives the argument that the D1 salary cap should be matched to country leagues rather than the D7 salary cap. No basis for suggesting that there should be a separate college comp.
In any view, I suspect PAOC, SPOC and ROCS would get rather bored playing each other.
I do advocate PAOC getting on with their re-development though.

Div 7 cap should be halved - too many spastics running around collecting a healthy paycheck who can barely play the game or spell their own name.

I would also be a fan of removing the maximum individual player payment.
If you can afford to/want to give 100% of the cap to one player go for it.

It’s your money you should be able to spend it as you please AS long as you stay under the TPP.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Spot on, the difference a few $700+ players would make to a team rather than spreading it out could be the difference between a successful season or not.jo172 wrote:I would also be a fan of removing the maximum individual player payment.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 1 - 2020
It's not even that, there's just no real logical basis for capping the maximum individual player payment unless its:
a) to save clubs for themselves;
b) notionally make enforcement easier.
I think both those propositions are inherently foolish. The extent to which you can save a club from itself here is completely limited.
As for enforcement, the less players a club cops to paying the easier enforcement will be.

Jack Trengove locked in at PAC
The SA Footballer must feel like abit of a dill claiming amateur clubs are being left behind on recruiting. Pearce, Goldsack and Trengove out does any country recruit to date.

So another great signing for Adelaide Footy League, Trengove to PAOC. The chatter above makes you wonder if the salary cap was graded in divisions 1-7 just how many more stars would play in the city versus the country. Playing with mates, family connections and returning to junior clubs are all great reasons for the current signings, but if the city money was close to the country money then I’m sure only the mercenaries would be left, and they would get found out pretty quick. Just my opinion for what it’s worth.

Given Trengove would presumably be a zero pointer back at Naracoorte would have thought they'd have been all over him.

Country footy is a much better atmosphere and feeling and that's coming from someone that has done both for over a decade. It's not even close sadly.

Trengove is an ex scholar at PAOC and would be zero pointer there as well.jo172 wrote:Given Trengove would presumably be a zero pointer back at Naracoorte would have thought they'd have been all over him.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 1 - 2020
IIRC, (and there are others on here with better memories then me) there was extensive discussion at an SAAFL delegates meeting about a graded salary cap and the clubs, overwhelmingly, voted to have the flat structure. My foggy memory also recalls it was PNU that proposed it at the time.Yank Man wrote:So another great signing for Adelaide Footy League, Trengove to PAOC. That’s not to say it can’t be changed. It just needs one club to put up a motion.
The other memory was the CFB reason for the salary cap was that the country leagues were very concerned that their clubs were going to go broke paying monstrous sums of money to mercenaries every year and would eventually go broke. Just before it started, there were a few blokes from a (say) D5 club went up the freeway for a $thousand per game each! No one would play for this inner country club (despite the lure of playing in one of the 4 leagues better than the SAAFL.)
Here’s a legitimate question: despite the fact (according to the 2 oracles that know football better than all of us plebs so it must be right) that all of the country football leagues are better than the CH9AFL, have there been any country football clubs shut down for financial reasons since the introduction of the points system / salary cap? If not, then maybe those CFB people have achieved their objective.

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 1 - 2020
The Div 1 forum has come alive and leads the charge. Is this going to be the new 2020 trend where the cream finally rises to the top?
We might all be clueless and use an outdated format according to social media, but there has been a bit of a revival in the last week with divvy 1.
