The thing that grinds my gears is that our opponents this summer would give the Redbacks a run for their money so it will inflate how talented we really are.

I actually think that a loss or two in the limited over games or a loss in the first test could be the best thing to happen for us for the long term picture.

As it is, Shaun Marsh is pretty much guaranteed a cap in the first test which over the various formats we have an ageing list, these are the series' that we need to pump matches into the kids and next generation.

By Jan 1 we will have:
S.Marsh 36
Paine 35
Siddle 35
Finch 33
Usman 33
Warner 33
Wade 32
Lyon 32
Maxwell 31

Bit harsh on the Kiwis, proven to be a very good test side of late. Dont expect them to win here but they will be competitive. Pakistan will be crap.

I didn't realize the sheep shaggers were coming, on the same token though they are a ten times better team on the other side of the ditch, we'll win comfortably.

The Pakistan schedule before the First test is 4 x T20's , 1 x 2day game and 1 x 3 day game. Not a great warmup for tests but the standard these days.

Pakistan will be hoping their 19yo Lefty Afridi will cause damage on the Aussie wickets. Based on his World Cup bowling he can get a bit of bounce but will go for a few runs .

Australia have over 20 , T20 internationals coming up over the next 12 months !

Australia A squad to play a 3 day day/night tour match against Pakistan on November 11th- Alex Carey (c), Marcus Harris, Joe Burns, Usman Khawaja, Will Pucovski, Travis Head, Nic Maddinson, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson, Sean Abbott, Riley Meredith.

Obviously the selectors are looking at Pucovski and giving Khawaja and Head every chance to get a spot in the first test team and looks like it's Harris, Burns or possibly Maddinson to partner Warner at the top. No Shaun Marsh or Kurtis Patterson and no specialist spinner either.

Strange line-up, I wonder if they tee it up to bat first and have different openers in each innings?

I wonder how much credence the selectors make of Shane Warne and his dickhead ideas, he thinks that Usman should be the opener in the first test, he has Pucovski in there too.

As much as I love the idea of blooding some youth, you can't drop someone who you have been blooding for the past 24 months and is still averaging over 42 following a test series on probably the lowest run producing continent.

Yes Wade has taken the bull by the horns along with SMarsh at domestic level but we'll bottom out again before we know it.

Very strange side with Harris, Burns, Khawaja, Maddinson you'd think all vying for the opening bat spot.

Would think bottom half:
7. Carey (w/k)
8. Neser
9. Abbott
10. Richardson
11. Meredith

So would guess they'd have Head (6), Pucovski (5) Burns (4), Khawaja (3) and then open with Harris & Maddinson?

Maddinson will be looked at middle order I would imagine. He made a lot of his runs there last year from memory (could be wrong)
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

You're probably right, still 3 day tour match, hard to see there being great opportunity for the middle order to really show something.

Bancroft not selected in the Oz A 3 day game. Where does that leave him?

Yeah I would of thought Maddinson will be in the middle order given who else is in the team, which is silly since he's been opening for Victoria for awhile now. As Bedge said it's a strange line up batting wise.
I think it will be-
Harris
Burns
Khawaja
Pucovski
Head
Maddinson
Carey
Neser
Abbott
Richardson
Meredith

We'll doctor the toss to bat first and have different openers for each innings.

Riley Meredith has become somewhat of a bolter, he'd be 6th or 7th in line at worst now.

Cummins
Hazlewood
Pattinson
Starc
Siddle
J.Richardson
Meredith
Neser

Bird seems to have dropped out of the nest, Sayers will never get another look in, Abbott as given a game in the tour match to preserve our main stocks and reward his efforts without much in it long term.

As much as I don't rate him, Chris Tremain would feel ripped off not to get a gig in the nothing match, his file has been placed in the same folder as Sayers I'd imagine.

Pretty good summary, Tremain has the first class record that should have him ahead of others in that pecking order but yes now it seems he's been marked as one to not get a look in for national honours.

Agreed that Bird is very stiff. Had a great summer last season in the Shield (well the last 7 or 8 seasons really), and from what I recall did alright in the A-matches in England (?)

Has never disappointed at test level either.

All out for 117, an improvement on Sunday's batting performance at least.
2 wickets each for Stanlake, Cummins, Agar and Zampa.
