Roy Laird’s last season coaching

Last week at Elizabeth, AS we came off the ground after the little cup presentation, Joel Cross did not go to the South rooms but went straight around to the Centrals rooms where he was stopped from going in.

John Platten came to the door to see what he wanted

After telling John what he wanted, John escorted him in to offer his congratulations to Roy Laird his outstanding success and achievements.

Pity that did not happen out on the ground but I for one think it's great that Crossy recognised Roy for all that he has done, not only for Centrals but for being a voice against the fee ride that the AFL clubs get in our league.

An outstanding career as a player and coach comes to end this Saturday. His legacy is great and will surely become a club hall of fame legend.

NO. Daryl Hicks implemented the white guernsey and socks. Kerley wanted to change the guernsey but wasn't able to, he did bring in better socks though. Management were just going to take thenm but Kerley made them send them back and made the company send the correct ones.

Daryl Hicks also implemented a better playing culture.

Depends who you talk to I guess, but Centrals people involved with the club that I know told me firsthand that Kerley was the one who changed the club.

Kerleys name is never mentioned when Club Culture is discussed. He was nowhere as impactful as the Club had hoped for. Clearly semi-retired as a coach at that stage.

Make no doubt Alan Stewart is the Father of CDFC! Roy is the Heir Apparent!

Kerley was just the last of the coaches that never got the CDFC over the line at all at finals time, just making them was still far too readily accepted as an achievement in the footy psyche out here when he left.

If memory serves, the trophy cabinet in the entrance to the old club-rooms was loaded with all manner of gear - much not even footy related. As I understand it, it was Stewart that insisted the Club "get rid of all this crap" from the cabinet as part of having every supporter and club person at the CDFC more focussed on the one thing every club playing in the SANFL should be - the TSH Trophy.
