West Coast have an easy one to start but then will probably need to win 3 in a row at the MCG

Not the end of the world for them now Perth and the MCG are the same size. Would expect them to beat the loser of Geelong/Collingwood and then if its Richmond in the Prelim final, that's your GF right there, the winner of that wins the flag.
Perhaps Geelong should take a leaf out WA's book and build a playing field the same size and dimensions as the MCG in Geelong so we don't have to listen to the bleating from them every year

Re: AFL Finals 2019 - Week 1
I do find the double standards from Gil quite contradictory though.
Geelong can’t have a home final because of crowd size but GWS are allowed to play at a ground that holds as many as Norwood Oval. If the AFL really did care about attendances the game would be played at the SCG

Is the Giants game going to be sold out though?

They wont fill Giants stadium against the Dogs, would be interesting where the AFL sits if it was Collingwood playing there, you'd think that would be at the SCG.
On another note, why do the 2 clubs in SA and WA share a ground and yet in NSW and Queensland they have one each to maintain? That would bleed $$ out of the AFL that isn't necesary

No, Gil was asked the question last week when there as a chance we would be playing GWS and he said the Giants would host a final at Spotless regardless of their opponents

Downplaying it already. I do hope the 15 years of no bomber finals win continues.

The whole not winning a final thing doesn’t really bother me as we haven’t had a good enough side to win a flag in any of those years. Winning Premierships are all that matter and we have absolutely been a failure in that regards with no sign the drought will end anytime soon.
West Coast should account for us easily, we will make another 5-6 changes, play injured blokes and get out coached along the way. Maybe Woosha has a one way ticket

Could it possibly be the AFL bending over backwards to lure the support of those with no interest, while simultaneously sending a big FU to true heartlands each and every time they sniff the opportunity of larger corporate dollars elsewhere?

I said it in an earlier post. The fact the GWS gets a home final and Geelong doesn't is poor form... It's like when we had to go to ANZ, thank **** that contract is over

Before and during the inception of the expansion clubs all finals were at Waverley or the MCG, WCE finished 4th in 88 and had to play Melbourne at Waverley who finished 5th, all SANFL finals used to be played at Football Park.
To me, especially the Victorian clubs, if you aren't at your peak at this time of year you wont go deep into the finals, you should aspire to play at the G and take every bit of confidence that you'll win if you think you're a genuine premiership threat.
Geelong are the better team, Geelong have had the better season but Collingwood are gaining momentum and would be hoping to get a couple of key players back this week.

Was it 97 or 98 where the Crows finished 4th and Geelong 2nd yet amazingly hosted the Cats

Is that right? I remember there being a clause stating at least one final each week had to be played at the MCG during the finals. Didn't Sydney have a home final or two during the period in question? Could that have been the reason for WC playing away to a side lower on the ladder?

Yep, 97, because of the ranking system Adelaide's win in the qualifying finals put them higher than Geelong who lost to hte 7th placed North Melbourne.
I'm pretty sure Adelaide were the lucky recipients in the 2000's when they got to host WCE when they probably didn't deserve it, I'm pretty sure WCE won though, I reckon I scabbed in on corporate box that night which ended up being a massive night at the Lakes.

Funny how Geelong are happy to play Collingwood at the G all year for the $$$ but come finals, they have principles all of a sudden.

I'm pretty sure it's something like that, I think it could be a minimum of 3 finals, meaning there could be one week of no MCG game, I could be wrong though.
