West Coast v Collingwood - Finals week 2

Talk on the national game

West Coast v Collingwood - Finals week 2

Postby Hondo » Thu Sep 13, 2007 8:52 pm

The injury-hit Eagles up against an unchanged 'Pies

Another hard game to pick but I lean towards the Eagles at home

If the Eagles lose it will mean the 4 remaining teams are made up of 3 who didn't make the 8 last year and 1 who went out in the first round (Collingwood).

Maybe there's an advantage to having 3 - 4 weeks extra off the previous season? Is attrition a factor when teams play deep into the finals in 2-3 consecutive seasons?

Hansen back, the Eagles to make a statement this week, and luckily collingwood will be on the receiving end!

West Coast should win because its at Subiaco, but if it was in Melbourne i would have tipped the Magpies

Agreed...I don't rate Collingwood, the Eagles home crowd should add a couple of goals, and hence they win by 12....

Ash Hansen back is a big boost for the Eagles. The complete forward structure changes when he isn't there and Lynch is forced to move forward. They miss him when he is out probably more than any other player (as shown by the stats when he does and doesn't play).

2007
IN: 10-3
OUT: 5-5

2006
IN: 14-0
OUT: 6-6

2005
IN: 16-4
OUT: 3-2

Overall
IN: 40-7 (85%)
OUT: 14-13 (52%)

The Eagles record when the big 3 have missed games over the same time period.
Judd 5-3 (62%)
Kerr 9-5 (64%)
Cousins 13-8 (62%)

That's some great figures, the percentage is still in Eagles favour regardless, and with the Dutchy's hailed barometer Hansen back in i've backed them to win.

I've had a dabble on the Coasters, but I don't think travelling has ever held any fears for the Pies, most likely due to the size and spread of their supporter base.

I reckon she's a close one tonight either way ... Pie's need Rocca to back up on last week's performance, and if there's one thing that let's the big fella down at times, it's consistency.

Collingwood have been a great tackling team this year when they've been playing well, but I can't see them taking as much of an advantage in that area against the hard at it Weagles.

I'll run with WCE by 17 points.

Hansen a big in for the Eagles. Their win-loss record without him dies in the ar5e. I just hope they belt the living suitcase out of each other. A report or two wouldn't go astray either. If I had to 'curse' one from each side it would be Dean Cox for West Coast and Travis Cloke for Collingwood.

I don't believe in that rubbish because even though I'm no angel, I don't think I've deserved the punishing retribution that has been heaped upon my narrow shoulders over the years by the Geelong Football Club. Either this year my torment is ended or I'm going to get given the biggest 5hitburger to eat of all time!

Still it hasn't stopped me from helping little old ladies across the street, cooking the other half dinner, working late and generally being a nice guy all round..not like me at all. If we don't win this bloody flag look out for me to turn into an even bigger a55hole.

Fit and Firing Collingwood Vs Injury Depleted Eagles

This final will continue the massive rivalry between Mick Malthouse and the Eagles (And John Worsfold) and after a couple of sly digs at the club in the past fortnight, i would think that nothing would give Worsfold more pleasure than to knock Mick and Collingwood out this week.

Out- Judd, Cousins
In- Hansen, Fletcher

Can the likes of Fletcher, Braun, Priddis, Steinglein, Hurn, Cox, Lecras, Rosa stand up and fill the void left by Kerr, Cousins and Judd? Wont do the damage those 3 do, but may be able to break even i think.

I give Collingwood a huge chance tonight and if Eagles do get over the line it will be a very very good win for the club. Chick will get Medhurst, would have Glass to Rocca, Hunter to Cloke and Brett Jones to the danger man Rusling which is one of the more important match ups IMO. Looking at those match ups i think WCE have the defence to shut down a very potent Collingwood. Big ins with the much maligned Fletcher needing to play a massive role if the Eagles are to get up. While Hansen is the Eagles most important player and they win a huge amount of games with him presenting from CHF.

I was a bit surprised to see Presti not in the 25, If Lynch, Hansen and Staker get going the Pies might be left a little thin down back.

Not many in the media are picking WCE which is very dangerous and i honestly think WCE will win by 2 goals.

Mrs Lindner is an Eagle supporter (very tense at our place at the moment) and she was saying that Collingwood haven't beaten West Coast at Subiaco since 1992.
Admitedly that doesn't mean much in tonight's final, but it's an interesting stat. Although it's probably more a reflection of Collingwood's dream draw over the years. You have to play there to win there
