Where are the Eddie-bashers now?

Postby Punk Rooster » Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:15 pm

All Crows supporters might be interested to know, that Collingwood President Eddie McGuire flew Mark Rucciuto's family over, to watch him play against Collingwood, it what may have been his last match (turns out he had 1 more).
Seems a pretty decent gesture to me...

Didn't know that but that is a great gesture by Eddie McGuire. I dips me lid.

I've heard stories of his generosity towards the VIS who share the Lexus centre with Collingwood.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I have come to the conclusion over the last few years that Eddie is alright TBH

I think he can shoot his mouth off at times and can be too parochial. But at the same time I think he is a genuine bloke who means well and sticks up for Collingwood because he's their president.

Its more the AFL caving in to Collingwood's lobbying that gets my goat at times

Well done on the Roo thing Eddie ....

As a commentator his comments were generally quite astute, however I think he did saturate the market with his presence which annoyed a lot of people - Footy Show, Mulyonair, TV specials like IQ test & driving test, Radio and TV commentary plus being the most public of club Presidents.

Since he backed off on a couple of those and his footy involvement (certainly from what I see and listen to on TV and radio) is limited to the club President role he performs incredibly well, I think he is excellent for the game in general.

His generosity is often mentioned by people other than himself which is generally a good measure of his intention - to just be generous and not publicity seeking.

This is yet another of those gestures. If he had done it for publicity, we would have heard about it before now.

My only beef is the way Vlad seems to be constantly on his knees answering Eddie's Magpie demands with a ...

"Yes, no interstate travel for your boys, sir"
"Yes, you can play the bottom sides more, sir"
"Yes, you can have all the marquee exposure, sir"
"Nothing will jeopardise a finals berth for you, sir"
"Yes sir, matches in Melbourne only for months on end. Got that"

I don't mind him any other time, it's just the sickly sweet way that the Collywobble boys get it so easy from the AFL! All the more reasons for changing the format of the season (my big bugbear).

I don't mind Eddie, I just HATE Collingwood ! 8)

I used to like the gamesmanship that used to go on between Elliot and Eddie
during the last few years of Elliots reign.
IMO, I think where most people get jacked off, is that Eddies gets his mob into the
news/papers and out there better than most. A bit of jealousy ??
Mind you with Dick Pratt on board at Carlton now, we may be going through our first
pre-season without any board room fighting for a long time...TOUCH WOOD...

I dont mind him as much now. Mainly because hes not "everywhere" at the moment. I think the main problem was that when it came to football you just couldnt get away from him. And that just seemed to add more to the guy people love to hate.

I have in no way changed my thinking about this goose.I cant stand him,and if you think some on miwyuns a year is 'doing a good jesture' by throwing half a dozen people on a Virgin from Adelaide to Melbourne, well Im lost.

You see what the bottom line is,he assumed Colligwood would win, thus the game would have been Roo's last.Another example of the blokes blind faith.

I have no problem with you blokes liking him,I dont though.

a nice gesture from eddie...

good to see a budding young journo workin his arse off.. not bagging players and hence getting there respect

imagine zac milback as a club pressie

best eddie story was few years back his home had burnt down and a journo asked how do u feel and eddie replied stuff the house my family is safe and thats all i care

He's still a filthy Collingwood mongrel though.

Agree with that any club who has someone like that would benifit heaps just from the way he gets his clubs name in the media as much as he does

Not really an Eddie fan per se but clearly those alleged 'comedians' on Before the Game are both bigger knobheads than the Collingwood president.
