Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2019
So the ball was kicked, then siren, then landed out on the full?

Absolute scenes I hear.
Ball was kicked out of a stoppage, flew toward the boundary, siren went. Bit of confusion as to whether it was paid out on the full or not. Umpires deemed the siren went as the ball was still in play, and called time. Another second or two and Valleys would've had a shot to win it.
Huge crowd, lights were great, clubrooms were packed after the game when I went in for a drink. Great setup out there at HV.
And an overturned HV goal?

Not completely knowing the rules I would have thought that was OOF. If you kick for goal and it’s still in the air it counts.
Thoughts @Lightning McQueen

I was wondering the same thing but then differentiated the two situations as you don't pay a mark if someone kicks the ball before the siren then it's marked after it.
I would've called game over there and then, or hoped the ball was in the other umpires control.

That is a good point but that is a “second action’. I would have thought where the ball landed was of importance

Re: Adelaide Footy League Division 5 - 2019
Yeah I would never have know the rule.
It does make sense the way it was ruled as in the example of marking it after the siren goes.
For umpiring purposes though I feel like it would generally be easier to determine where the ball has landed (if you were to pay it) than it could be to determine where the ball exactly is at time of siren going. Does the ball have to have landed or does it just need to cross the white line before the siren.

A lot of Salisbury spectators rushing onto the field to celebrate the win only added to the confusion

Yeah understandable that there was a lot of confusion from literally all parties. Very unique situation.

I think the goal umpires decision before this was more controversial

Law 10.4.2: A Free Kick will not be awarded where the football has been kicked and, after the field Umpire has heard the siren, lands Out of Bounds On the Full.

Well done to the umpires for knowing that rule, watched footy for nearly 50 years and never knew that rule

My understanding was the goal umpire thought it was a goal and the field umpire over ruled him?

I umpired for 3 years. Spent every Saturday night resting my legs and searching the rule book for some obscure incident.
Its amazing what can happen to you when umpiring that never happened whilst playing 300 games!
dedja: Dunno, I’m just an idiot.
