There are rumours that this is being discussed currently.

Doubt GSFL would entertain the idea as they have netball with the football.
The best thing about the GSFL is that its combined with the netball.

Having playedin both leagues the GSFL hands down more family friendly.

I hope they don't turn it into a super league!!.

No disrespect to those comments at all but when does football have to discuss the issue of netball. Why do we have to care about that. Im sure that there are families in the SFL that have daughters that play netball and are at different venues and we never hear a winge about it. Also how many current men playing A Grade Football in the mentioned leagues have partners that play netball at the same time. Im sure their is some but is it really enough to listen to and not change football for the better? I think it is time for the older men that do a great job of governing their leagues become more open minded about football and less about their own back yard.

The family orientation is what keeps the GSFL a strong league. That's why some 'recruits' play down there, because they can take their wife and kids to the same club and play on the same day. Why would you change that because several other leagues cannot manage their own backyard?

It's not just senior players with partners though. There's families that will have a son & a daughter playing football & netball at the same venues.

good comp yes however its also a comp that is heavily reliant on imports and $$$'s to sustain its seniors while its juniors struggle.

Country champs no good for SFL programming given we already have an odd number of teams. Apart from a few players that might enjoy what benefit is there ?

On another topic, combining leagues or football and netball joining forces really ? SFL is a dying competition unfortunately and I'd say Hills might not be that much better, all I know is go back to 90's SFL had two strong divisions then it all changed two clubs merged and other clubs left the league to join Hills and then SAAFL.

A serious over haul needs to happen SFL once the hierarchy put up their hands for help nothing will change. Say good bye to SFL in next few years

I see some flourishing score lines in the GSFL this weekend. That league is going great guns. So is their netball though.
LHC vs Yank = 20 goals
Mt C vs McL = 4 goals
Strath vs Myponga = 13 goals
VH vs G PE = 21 goals
Will vs EB = 16
Tight contests all round

I heard they are having issues with netball with a lot of blame being directed at women's football. The main senior competition is down to 9 teams as Encounter Bay has dropped their A-Grade into the B-Grade competition and is winless and having massive losses in that (74-18 this week  )

All parties need to stop the procrastinating and realise the possibilities. The SFL, GSFL and Hills league are not protected species and could create one of the best if not the best comps in SA once merged. SFL 9 teams GSFL 10 teams Hills league 18 teams combine to create 3 grades of quality footy and the "crowds will come". Ego's and partisan pride needs to be put aside or suffer the consequences. SFL not competitive, Hills league the same and the GSFL prop up sides that are smashed each week. One complaint was travel time Kersbrook to Aldinga 1 hour 14 minutes BIG DEAL Try Brighton to Rostrevor in traffic. Come on !!. If your serious and sensible this is the only way out for these three comps to progress and not dissolve like others before.

Well said and I totally agree with your points. Also allows juniors and seniors games to stay at a single venue.

You obviously haven't watched hills football or looked at scores if you honestly think this.

But the Hills League has created a ridulous BYE in both divisions as a means of reducing the damage with some potential match ups. Meadows and Torrens Valley are way off the pace in Div 2, Lobethal have won 2 of their last 30 in Div 1 and the decision to promote Nairne seemed to be more based on their juniors because their Seniors clearly weren't ready. As someone who still maintains an interest in the SFL I think the concept of a 3 league merge to create the "Fleurieu Hills League" should at least be explored by the leagues and the SACFL.

But the elephant in the room is juniors and that the stronger senior clubs aren't always the stronger juniors clubs and vice versa and people who always complain about the SFL ever going to one division or not going back to two divisions tend to overlook how a divisional model is and always will be flawed based on the impact on juniors. So as good as a merged league may look with 3 or 4 fairly even senior divisions with promotion and relegation, it can create unintended consequences for junior footy.

The conversation should be had with open minds, things might not change for a few years but at least have the conversation. If not clubs will be forced to make their own decisions. Sounds like the only thing stopping it is another sport.

Bag the SFL but it is the only one of the 4 comps where every club has a full suite of juniors.
