Tim Ginever's plan for 2008

Postby Sojourner » Tue Sep 11, 2007 9:44 pm

Sounds like a good plan to me, I hope the incoming coach of South looks into something similar!

"Ginever wants to cut imports

PORT Adelaide Magpies coach Tim Ginever has no doubt what path the club must take to regain its status as a competition power.

Promote the local product and reduce the percentage of imports is his answer to the Magpies climbing back into the finals. Just minutes after the Magpies thumped West Adelaide by 62 points at Broadspectrum Oval on Saturday to finish sixth, Ginever said the side had to lift its local content.

"At the moment the percentage of local talent to imports is 50-50 and we have to make sure the balance is right - the balance is out," Ginever said.

"We've always had good interstate recruits but they came into a side where we are 80-20 (percentage of locals to imports).

Port aren't the only team this year being criticised for having too many imports who don't always have the same passion and commitment as the local guys.

I remember earlier in the season we made up an 'import' side made up of imports at all SANFL clubs. It was scary how good that side was and no-one was game to make up a SA side to go up against it IIRC.

Its great to be the second best comp in the country but these days the % of imports must be the highest its ever been.
In between signatures .....
