On Buddy Franklin

what would Mr Wallace be thinking now, Richmond was in the driver's seat to draft him, however they went with Tambling

2004
National Draft

Richmond had pick 1 and 4 and went for Deledio and Tambling
WB had pick 3 and went for Ryan Griffen
Hawks had pick 2 and 4 and went for Roughead and Franklin

Given the Tigers and WB lack quality big men, they would be kicking themselves

Franklin had big question marks over him that draft due to hardly playing that season in the U18's due to injury, and questions about his attitude. Deledio and Tambling and griffen were all "safe" picks and are good players. Franklin was risky but it has payed off, if the hawks were that sure he was a gun they would have picked him at number 2!. Oh well, at least the crows didnt take mcgregor instead of him

it is time for some big decisions

One of the biggest decisions that the Crows need to make is on the future of their senior coach.

The Crows have an opportunity to sign Sheedy if they so wish too this week, if they did so they would get themselves a coach that has proven many times that he can handle the pressure of coaching in finals football.

Craig has never tasted success in a finals campaign and has had plenty of opportunities to do so.

On the other hand if the Crows are adament that they are happy with Craig, the club should make a public statement by extending his contract.

My thoughts on the matter would be that the Crows would do better next year with Sheedy rather than Craig. Sheedy will bring new ideas into the club and a new attacking plan. Craig seems to be struggling in this area and as good a fitness coach as Craig is, I feel that the Crows need someone who is a better tactician in charge of the club at this time.

Gee Ruttens game on Roughead has not got a mention...........caned even with Stevens doubleteaming either Roughead or Franklin (whoever it was kicked to) . Craig probably didnt want to move Rutten on Franklin due to Ruttens bad vibe on the day.Why would Adelaide persist with Burton??? Had the chance to almost put it beyond doubt with a mark in the goalsquare when Adelaide were cooking .In front of the pack he shat himself .Put his arms up and was expecting to be hit and the ball hit both his hands and he didnt make any attempt to close his hands and mark it expecting the crunch that never arrived and went to ground....fraud.

Yep spot on !

Burton is undisciplined and his attack on the football is soft at best , Rutten was towled up and Massie isnt in Franklins league . I bet Buddy was rubbing his hands together when he saw Massie lining up on him in todays conditions . Bock and Mcleod were ordinary today too .

Neil Craig's game plan is just not suited to finals football and he has made that team too one dimensional . If the Crows are serious about winning finals next year they have to axe Craig and bring Sheedy to Adelaide .
What i dont know about football isnt worth knowing .

I have argued with Sojourner before about this S-D

Sojourner is a Gary Aryes fan still upset about what happened in 2004 if that helps put things in perspective - conistent Neil Craig basher (with some mates) who likes to use low days for the AFC to remind us all how terrible a coach Craig is. Very, very quiet on the good days of course .....

Neil Craig still never missed a finals series when senior AFL coach for a full season. 3 points may as well be 3,000 points in a final unfortunately.

Hawks just wanted it more!
I distinctly remember seeing Hodge beat 2 or 3 crows around the centre late in the game and they were all over them from that point on.

Would have been good to see crows get up, but seriously, their disposal by foot was horrible.
You cant expect to win finals when you turn the ball over like they do.

At least the bays will have Dougie for the finals. Other clubs will also get a few back.
Well done Hawks!
Crows, you blew it!

Sheedy the master tactician, yes in the 80's and 90's he was the best

However, let's look at his more recent years, from 2005-07, Sheedy coached 66 games for 21 victories, this is why he got the axe from the Bombers, this is why Freo and Melbourne did not want Sheedy

And now he is the answer to the crows

Hang on, what about Pagen, or maybe ther crows should go for Robert Walls or David Parkin, or what about Tommy Hafey

Crows had their chances to sew it up. Gill marked about 60m out late in the last quarter and then panicked and stuffed up a rushed hand-ball. Burton dropped that mark too - altho it was hardly the sitter that the Birdman bashers are making it out to be! Prob some others too including the out of bounds on the full that gave the ball back to the Hawks that lead to Buddy's big moment.

Hafey

can you enlighten us with Sheed's game plan, if not I will advise, "Kick it to Llyod"

can you enlighten us why Sheed's could not win either the Freo or Melb coaching jobs over rookie coaches

can you explain his 21 wins from 66 games since 2005

can you explain to us why he has been unable to develop the Bomber list

please enlighten us

SD, I do not like the Crows, so will try to be unbiased :? .
IMO I couldn't see any other coach going any better then Craigy could with the list. I think the Crows thought with the ageing list they might have one last crack (similar to Sydney as Hondo put in another thread).
Time for a rejuvenation and see how it goes....
