In addition, the Leadership Player can only be paid a maximum upfront/ base payment of $20,000 and match payments of $500 per match.

A sad day for the Magpie reserves but it had to happen, they had no choice.
This year was disgraceful for them.
I still know of 1 or 2 old guys who watched the reserves religiously at Alberton this year even though they got belted by 30 goals each week.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

"This worked so well in SA, we're going to do it in Perth".

I note that the WAFL will be paid approximately twice what the Clowns pay the SANFL. Invest in forty pieces of silver now; the exchange rate appears to be undergoing hyperinflation.

Not as big a step for the WAFL as it was over here I guess given WCE were already aligned to a club in the comp

Slightly ironic the AFL premiers are moving to a system of two non finalists.

21 SA kids drafted into AFL this year.

Re: The never ending No AFL in the SANFL whinge thread
Interesting quote from an article posted by Wedgie on the "Congrats NA Flag" thread:
Finances were in short supply at the Magpies and Edwards (then CEO of the Port Magpies) says he learned plenty that year as the club and Power pursued a merger.
“When the SANFL knocked back the first merger proposal the Magpies went from 1800 members to 7000 in six weeks,” Edwards said. “The day after the merger was knocked back we had 100 people come into reception to sign up for membership and give donations.
“It was a real eye opener as to how passionate people are to Port Adelaide and football.”
I have long held that the true fans of the Magpies have suffered just as much, if not more, than the regular passionate SANFL follower, and what further proof would you need than the above quote? 7000 members is a massive number in post Crows SANFL, but of little account to decision makers out at Alberton. In our wonderful dollar chasing world, the extra bums on seats provided by the Power and attached corporate circus easily outweighs the risk of losing those 7000 born and bred Magpie members who cheered, laughed and cried during the Magpie tradition continuing through their lifetimes up to that point. Without Edwards saying that it should be blatantly obvious in any case. How TF would I know? Because that is what it would be like if it happened at my club!
The line "Port has no one to blame but themselves" is BS in my opinion, there were obviously plenty within the club who opposed the stench that has pervaded our league.

I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Someone has to say it.
How much better would this photo (and the league) look by removing the one on each end and also removing the front row.
Hate how SANFL has moved league games forward an hour to fit SANFLW games in after. Screwed up my whole Saturday routine. I will NOT be staying to watch SANFLW. Will player presentations be moved back after home games to include the women's game. I hope not.

Thanks for your sarcasm but that wasn't my meaning. I am not against females playing football per se but I have zero interest in it. They don't belong with the League and Reserves teams. Why can't they play with the U18s?
