STRANGE AFL FINALS PROGRAMMING ?

Postby mal » Tue Sep 04, 2007 3:42 pm

Unfair draw for the finals for some clubs

1ST V 4TH... GE V KA at MCG
Top team GE derive no advantage for finishing top and playing KA on the nuetral MCG
Pity Kardinia Park wont hold a big crowd as that nullifies a true home ground advantage for GE

2ND v 3RD... PP V WC at AAMI
Fair draw the higher seeded team PP get the TRUE home ground advantage

5TH V 8TH...HW V AC at TELSTRA DOOM
This is the one that stinks for me
HW finished 5th and have to play on the DOOM instead of the MCG[thier home+ away home ground]
AC play the 5th team on a neutral ground, HW get a raw deal
Pity 3 games cant be played at the MCG

6TH V 7TH...CO V SS at MCG
CO rightly get the MCG home ground advantage over SS
BUT
The 5th team HW should have got this venue

My question is why did CO get the MCG game after finishing 6th before HW the 5th team ?

Oh stop ya whinging. As we all know Collingwood people can't read. Therefore they can't find the dome because ofcourse that would involve reading a map. They know where the MCG is because they've been losing finals there for decades. Next you'll be wanting home games for the Hawks at Glenferrie or Waverly. The Vics keep telling us that both grounds are now neutral venues so accept the decision and play on. Sounds like the Hawks are worried and it doesn't matter where the game is played they will never be as done over as "Interstate" clubs have been in the past. At least they're playing in Melbourne for a start.

Go Kangas. :-({|=

:D Nah, I've said my piece already. I also don't have an answer to Mal's question about why the Pies get the G over the Hawks.

I asked Centreman and he reckons CO got the MCG venue
because CO have a bigger supporter base than HW
Bigger crowds = more $$$$ for the AFL

If thats the reason HW have been shafted

The AFL had no problem shafting Fitzroy to get a more cashed up Port Adelaide into the competition and paying off a massive license fee for the privilege, Maybe this decision is more aimed at influencing the Hawks of the benefits of being relocated to Tassie?

Must be either some agreement with the TD Stadium Managers or the logistical problem of clearing out the G after the afternoon match before the evening one

Yeah, its an agreement with the Telstra Dome, there was some talk of their allocated final being swapped for 2 games next year but that obviously fell through.

WEDGIE
purely from you own view point as a parochial Geelong barracker
would you have liked this weeks final v KA played at Kardinia Park ?

GE TOP
KA 4TH

No advantage for GE after a better year than KA playing at the G this weekend

Prefer it to be at the Telstra Dome truth be known, that's where we play our best footy.
Mind you, we're undefeated at the MCG this year so that could be argued, also the MCG game gives us experience we'll need come Grand Final day if we make it.
Kardinia Park would be a stupid option IMHO.

If Geelong are good enough (which I think they are) it won't matter if it's KP, TD or the G

As Wedgies says, better to get game time at the ground where the GF will be held I reckon

Would playing KA at Kardinia Park be more of a winning chance for GE ?

Definately not, based on winning %'s this year less.
We haven't lost a game at the G this year but we've lost games in Launceston, Geelong and the TD.

Kardinia Park is just about the worst option where we'd want to play a final. There's not one positive for it.

One for Dutchy or anybody who can think harder than me - construct a draw for this weekend with the three Melbourne games at the G, same four start times and no 5 day (or inequitable) break for anybody.
