Tonight was the first AFL match Id seen him play and if this was anything to go by, he is worthy of a position in the Crows forward line. He presents really well and is not afraid to put in a solid effort towards the ball and has good second effort. A far better option than the Sarge.

Gill has a very good work rate presents well and really gives the crows a target. And as the ox said, we will at some stage see him take huge hanger. As for his kicking, he will improve that over the summer.

Gill is more than a tryer

He attacks the footy with no fear, has a great pair of hands and his defensive pressure is excellent, big plus we are already seeing a real improvement in his kicking

Definitely, bye bye to Perrie, Kenny and Meesen

This year the mature age rookie rule comes in to play, so it will be interesting to see who the clubs will target

Possible and he deserves it but age is against him and I don't know if any other AFL clubs would have a look. Don't know if there's room in Adelaide except that Welsh is still injury prone, hurts me to say it but might fit into Port. Tredders' days seem short and could be a fill in for a few years. The thing with Gill is that his aerobic ability is excellent and can run all over the ground where as Chambo is more of a bullocking forward and, I think, it would be harder to play at that level.
With AFL footy today it seems you need alot of srtings in your bow, or alot of arrows in your quiver, or.................... :(

Seems like the perfect half forward flanker to me. Brilliant recruitment there by the crows.

Brilliant recruitment by North, I doubt very much he would have created any interest if he eas still playing as a backman in the VFL

Thats stretching it a bit far Ian.Did he play for North before he was on the two AFL lists he spent time on?

Just a matter of Adelaide requiring another forward option this year.A fit Hentscel, and he probably would not have been drafted at all.A fit in form Perrie,McGregor and Roo for the whole year and he would not have played a game.

In the right spot at the right time.(Draft time last year just after Hentschel had gone down)

I haven't spent enough time analysing it to know whether Gilly's goalkicking yips are technichal, mental or a combination of both ... However I seem to recall him being pretty good for North when further out from goal (say 40+) and again last night he delivered very well from long range, perhaps from the further distance there is less expectation and he puts his leg right through the ball?

Anyway, I was on record as being a fan of his from the outset and whilst I think there's some degree of truth in what Booney has said, I have no reason to jump off the Gilly bandwagon thus far!

I'd say both Port and the Crows would be happy with their late round draft picks - Westhoff & Gill.

Not wanting to start a comparison debate here! Just commenting that both clubs have found a very useful forward with late picks in the draft which is well played given how hard it is to find tall forwards who can cut it at AFL level.

Yes he had been a Rookie on 2 lists, neither time he made it. At the time North recruited him he was playing full back in the VFL reserves, his AFL aspirations were pretty well dashed.

Was Gill on melbourne's list, because last night Ox made some remarks about him that seemed well informed or that he had seen him train or play a fair bit, talking about his marking ability, might have been tv jargon but seemed like he knew what he was talking about from first hand experience.

And as Ian said playing full back for the Port Melbourne VFL RESERVES not the Seniors when North signed him in late 2004 after watching him all year.

I recall vividly our Football Manager telling me about this bloke who is 6'4, leaps like a gazelle, mop of floppy hair, runs and chases hard all day but not the best kick you have seen kick but he will be an X factor excitement machine aand Jars will play him out of the fwd line. He hasn't proved anyone wrong so far and if he can stay fit and healthy, he will as the Ox attested too, start to take a few huge hangers in the future.

What I like about him so far is he just has a go.....if you had 21 other Nick Gill's (blokes who just go out and have a dip and is prepared to sacrifice him self for the team) you'd very rarely lose.

As Michael Jordan once said, "Give me four guys of average ability, strong fundamentals and big hearts and I'll take my chances everytime. Big games down to those two things..."

The Crows need more blokes like him who are prepared to get their hands dirty. Not that I'm saying they haven't but we've had too many soft losses this year through blokes (who if they were brutely honest with themselves) not giving their all and having a dip - Ess, Melb, Freo, & Ess again...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
