Holdfast Hotel last night.
Purchased a Scoopon online for 4 people, choice of schnitzel with sauce or any burger off the menu plus 4 pints of tap beer/cider or glass of house wine all for $35. I must admit I was sceptical when I bought it - quality, how small would the meals be etc.
Table booked for 6pm, seated & drinks ordered straight away. Fast table service for drinks - tick. (shits me no end when you have to wait & wait for a drink). Second beer arrives & we order.
The bistro is well set out & tables are not crammed together like many places these days. The manager Alex, runs a well organised bistro with plenty of friendly, attentive staff.
Beer number 3 and the meals arrive, the missus & kids all order beef burgers - pattie, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, relish & smokey mustard on a good sized brioche bun with a mountain of chips on the side. I had the chicken parmigiana & chips. Mine was stock standard, nothing flash but by no means bad. The three burgers were spot on. The kids could’ve shared one they were such a good size, so I got to help clean theirs up too. Wifey smashed hers and washed it down with a cider. A couple of soft drink pints for the kids were $10.
In and out within an hour, fed, watered & content.
4 meals, 3 pints of Carlton Draught, 1 pint cider all for $35 - outrageous value, kicking myself I didn’t purchase more.

Service 9/10
Food 8/10

Were the chips under the schnitzel or beside it though?

$35....sounded too good to be true, so can understand the reluctance to purchase more than 1 as you never know what they will dish up.

Not sure if Uber Eats is allowed, but just in case .. Tried the Red Ass at Semaphore tonight,
Missus and eldest ordered the chicken Laksa, good size serving gets a tick. Eldest enjoying it (although he said he's had better) and the missus too hungover to try hers yet.

I got the Butter Chicken which is pretty average, thankfully ordered a Fried Rice too because that's pretty decent.

The missus grabbed a Dimmy's (sp??) deal for us, so the pair of us headed off to S2 in Hutt St. last night.

If anyone likes decent Thai food, can easily recommend this place.

Shared the Sea Stars for entree - The Dumplings were good, the filling even better, and the sauce even better again = top shelf and a great start to proceedings.

We then ordered 3 mains to share ... The Duck Curry, and Tom Yum Kao Pad (opted for the Seafood variety) were outstanding. The other dish was a Prawn Salad. I lose interest when I hear the word salad, but I had a coupla Prawns and they hit the spot.

Missus had a glass of wine, I had a Mineral Water and total bill came to $58.

Food, atmosphere, decor and presentation were outstanding. The service was brilliant and meals came out quickly. Couldn't vouch for this place more highly.

Disappointingly, none of the above ...Given the missus' love for Thai food, think we gotta check out Golden Boy

Phoenix Chinese at North Haven.

We service them at work, so thought it was time I went in.

The owner asked as he was taking our order "Do I know you from somewhere?" Oh how we laughed.

Got the banquet for two.

Starting with the best damn spring roll I've ever had, and a satay chicken skewer.
Second thing out was a bowl of chicken and corn soup. Delicious.
Then came the rest, there was a prawn dish, a beef dish, lemon chicken, and a pork dish. There was also a big plate of special fried rice.
After we finished that, we got a fortune cookie each, and a nut sundae.

The price for the banquet was $32 each (min of two people). We also got a Bundy and coke, and a coke.

Total was $76. (Didn't give me mates rates)

Unfortunately it was pissing down outside, but I assume the views would be nice on a clear day from the upper story on the North Haven marina.

8/10
