Collingwood and Adelaide could be meeting again next week but I think its at the MCG instead of the Telstra dome....

Who will it suit more?

That deliberate against Wakelin was one of the worst decisions Ive seen of all time (well since the North v Eagles game).
If umpires had any sort of conisistency to their game it wouldn't have been called in a million years (or a million others that are let go would be called).
Disgraceful IMHO.

He was trying to kick the ball away from Nick Gill, that's the whole idea of a close contest with an opposition player, you get it away from him. It was actually to Collingwood's disadvantage at that stage if the ball went out (and its what Gill would have been striving for it he had the chance), Wakelin would have liked to have kept it in play.
Common sense.

But that's not even the issue even though its a non issue, the point I made was "If umpires had any sort of conisistency to their game it wouldn't have been called in a million years (or a million others that are let go would be called)."

Most times I have seen deliberate out of bounds called this season (or not called) I have thought they were there (or not there :) )

Wakelins was deliberate he just didn't think he would get pinged

It was probably on the borderline, but still there

Of course I WOULD say that tonight

IMO he deliberately kicked the ball towards the line, just didnt disguise it well, he knew Gill had him on taost if he didnt get it to the line...

Gill didn't have him on toast at all, it was a 50/50 ball at that stage.

Anyone who thought that was deliberate out of bounds could never have played the game or has forgotten what its like to play the game.
BUT as I said, that's not even the point, the point is consistency, call one, call them all.
They don't call obvious ones, and they do call this one at a crucial stage of the game which cost Collingwood a goal and a chance at winning.
Hey, I was barracking for the Crows but I do have an ounce of common sense though.
I don't watch as much AFL as most but I would have seen at least 500 instances that warranted deliberate more than that one never paid in the last 5 years. That's my point. Disgraceful IMHO.

Another free kick that I was ropable about was when a free was given against a Crows player who hip and shouldered the Collingwood player away beautifully only to have the umpire call it wasn't within 10.
IMHO it was about 5m away but even if it wasn't why pay that and not pay frees when players are hip and shouldering each other 150 metres away from the ball?

Further incompetency in the last half when a Crows player kicked it, one umpire yells "play on play on, not 15m" only to have another umpire blow the whistle when the mark was taken.
WTF?

That was against Porplyzia. Disgraceful decision. The ball was right there.

And what about the in the back paid against Massie to Buckley? The PERFECT tackle.

I agree with you on both of those.

Ironically when Wakelin did kick it out of bound Mrs Wedgie called "deliberate" and I almost spat out my beer laughing at her, then the umpire agreed with her and I copped it! She reckons it was consistent with a free called earlier in the game which I didn't see so fair enough.

That Wakelin decision was the worst ive seen in a long time, earlier in the game an Adelaide player handballed it out the pack and over the line and that wasn't delebrite. The umpires arent consistant enough and this should get reviewed at the end of the year.

The Wakelin kick out was deliberate - he certainly wasn't trying to kick it anywere near a Collingwood player. He just didn't disguise it very well, nor did he look genuinely surprised - it should have been 50 metres too for overacting without a licence!

Crap decision, like most of the umpiring...

might I say 12 - 1 free kicks half way through the half quarter in Adelaide favour.. ends up 19 - 18 in Collingwoods favour..

BUT the better of the two teams on the night won (not sure the best team won.. think Collingwood will be better for the run & for some key ins next week) but we're in the finals and that's all that matters for now.. great result and MACCA is an absolute star and our real barrometer.. he is a real top 5 brownlow hope (don't think he can beat Harvey / Ablett or probably even Cornes) but he is a champion!!
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

No doubt that the best team tonight won.

It was hard barracking for Adelaide (well not really as Mrs Wedgie would have smashed me if I didn't) knowing Gilly could be back for North sooner rather than later.

Which poses the question, will Adelaide release Gill to play for North if they go no further in the finals given his run with injuries?

I would think they would, there's lots of complaints and bleating about AFL players coming back to finals (including myself) but I'd like to think that if someone's fully fit the AFL club would release them. Ive even witnessed players with nagging injuries play for North in the past (Damon White and Ian Perrie come to mind).
Its only the players that need a minor op of some sort that usually get taken out.
Other issues may come into it like trade bait, etc but despite the bleating I think the AFL clubs are pretty good in this regard.

I actually sympathise with the AFL clubs to a degree as they virtually start training the moment the enforced 6 week break is over so its a hard choice for them and they do pay the wages.
