L Creek looking good. Compass building towards finals again. Victor looking the dark horse if they can sneak into the finals, consistency is the key for them. Mclaren have a good unit, but the early season 'honeymoon' appears to be over, I'm sure Big G can get them going again.

Stop trolling LGIL, yes some clubs are having an off year but it's not consistent like the SFL. The GSFL certainly wont sit on its hands and do nothing like the SFL did. How many clubs disbanded in the last few years to join other leagues because the SFL was disfunctional? Morphetville Park, Edwardstown, Brighton, OSB, Marion? Missing any?

Suggesting Morphettville Park, Edwardstown, OSB Lonsdale & Marion left due to "SFL disfunction" has about as much truth as saying Milang & Port Elliot are no longer in the comp because of "GSFL disfunction".

In all six cases, a problem was dealt with and the respective comps have been better for it.

How so? Milang and Port Elliot couldn't field a team and struggled financially? The above teams seem to be doing alright in a new league.

Play on.

Morphettville Park & Edwardstown were unable to field junior teams - they now play in a league that does not require that
OSB Lonsdale & Marion struggled to compete - they now play at a much lower level

Play on.

So, Compass didn't have enough monsters in the forward line. Pending clearance for Dale Ellis, looks like he hasn't played this year at Torrens? Coming off an injury?

Has he played in this league before? Name sounds familiar?

Reigning premiers, Compass can't or won't find any player's to support the SA Country Championships?

It’s a joke isn’t it? And their coach is assistant coach too. What about the team sitting top only providing 1 Under 21 and that’s it.

Played at Victor, his brother coached (then just played the second year)

How many Compass blokes played in the GSFL vs SFL game?? They pick the Southern Districts team from that game, so if they didn’t have any reps, hard to pick them for the Country Championships.

Then that is a joke. No wonder no one takes it seriously anymore. Picking blokes on name or reputation! Makes a mockery of the whole concept

If you can’t make the concept work in the AFL then how is it going to work these days for a suburban footy comp where Marquee players are more important than ever. Pointless ego points for leagues and the more blokes are paid then the lesser paid talent is going to play in a Mickey Mouse game.

I played an extremely short stint in Mildura and these games were laughed at. Why would you risk yourself in a pointless game, especially if you’re on good coin.

I would like to see clubs challenge the bylaws of the leagues who try (& do) suspend players for not making themselves available for these matches. I'm guessing here, but I would suggest that if a player is an employee of a Club, then the league has no legal right to demand anything of a player. I would also think that if clubs & players were to seriously challenge any action from a league by way of suspension, the leagues could find themselves in court with a lawsuit claiming loss of income, based on unfair action taken by an overseeing body.

We have entered the age of semi-pro football, and players have the right to say NO to playing any game, especially one they are being forced to play by somebody other then their employer.

If you want to continue with Representative footy (which I'm a huge fan of) then we must change our thinking! Get a list of players who volunteer for these games from each club, & pick the Teams from that. Stipulate that you cannot play Zone footy unless you make yourself available for your respective Association games, & you cant make the State team, without first making your Zone squad. I would think a lot of very good players would still "put their hand up"

Hit the nail on the head Golberg. Start the process by selecting a squad from a list of those wanting to play on the June long weekend.

So what is the actual purpose of these games, and what do they achieve?
