It is the only way to put credibility into the commercial enterprise called AFL. [I don't think it can be called sport while there is not guarantee all is fair and even.]

I also think the same policy should also apply to police, teachers, hospital staff... etc. etc.

If we are serious about our society having drug problems we shouldn't be trying to tackle the problem by trying to stop 3rd world farmers growing the stuff. We should be getting serious about the use, and promotion of use, at home.

Completley agree with that, if player are doing drugs then the club has every right to know about it, exactly the same as how TransAdelaide and various other companies are immediantly informed of positive drug testing of employees.

AFL clubs pay massive amounts of money to individual players in wages and endorsments. Each player represents a massive amount of financial investment by the club. The club have the right to know if one of their players is drug addicted and destroying their body and the clubs investment at the same time. If a player is doing drugs then that player has a chance of overdosing and the club needs to be aware of that in the first instance so that they can at least help rather than the current situation where they are kept in the dark.

What people dont understand is the nature of addiction. People might well say that it is only once that a player has been caught, yet if that player is doing Cocaine or Meth, chances are they are addicted anyway and as with the case at West Coast, need the help of the club to break the addiction. Leaving it up to the player to get over the addiction is never going to work and it leaves the club exposed to a massive amount of risk as a result.

Brett Burton gave a press conference today and Channel 7 reporters were allowed in but their questions were not responded to - C7 has been "banned" for the time being at least.

Brendan Gale also slammed C7 in a press conference on Monday.

I believe Collingwood players are also looking at a similar ban on C7 media.

Interesting that C7 Adelaide tonight did their sports report from the top of the grandstand at Footy Park (Dittmar) but notwithstanding I was paying very little attention, I don't recall them saying they had been "banned" by the Adelaide players.

What will be interesting now will be to see how C7's contracts with Adelaide based AFL club players are dealt with. Will a player(s) with a contract to do a weekly grab, who refuses to do their grab, have their contract terminated by C7? I doubt it. Will a player break the "ban" and fulfil his C7 contractual obligations? Good question - will have to wait and see.

What are all the C7 footy journos doing this week? Watching Channel 9 to get their info? The Crows play this Friday Night against Collingwood and if both clubs have "bans" in place, the coverage will be limited to vision in play and some sheepish commentators trying to skirt around the issue of not being able to engage with any players in any way.

Thursday is the next court date. I cant see the injunction being lifted but if it was, would C7 name the players then? I think that's highly unlikely. Thursday night is also the night the team sheets come out.

Does anyone know what finals C7 is scheduled to host this year?

C7 could ride it for a week or two I imagine. The players aren't allowed to kick out C7 from any press conferences, all they can do is ignore them.

That means they get all the vision and sound of a press conference to show on their news bulletins.

Pre and post game interviews will be covered by non-playing staff.

If they don't mention it on their bulletin, the difference to normal would be neglible. Until they get to brownlow night I suppose.

I thought they tossed a coin (like in prev years) and C7 got FNF and C10 got the finals

We've all got good memories around here haven't we?

My recollection (which may well be wrong) was that the coin toss decided who got the first GF, then it alternates each year between C7 & C10.

Ten never wanted FNF as far as I know, interferes with the rest of their programming - all they want is Saturday footy.

I am sure someone else has yet another recollection.

Yes they did toss the coin but that was only to decide who got 3 GF's and who got 2 GF's - being a 5 year deal it aint even, C10 won the toss* and get 3 GF's CH7 get 3 Brownlows

I think it's fair enough the players take a stand against Channel 7. Yes, the players earn a large amount mainly because of the amount the media pays for rights, but at the same time, the media has to show some respect towards the players.

I did a quick search and Dutchy and co seem right about the coin toss deciding who gets 3 of the 5 GF's and then the other station gets the Brownlow

However, I found stuff that confirmed C10's advertising that they have the all the AFL Finals. So it must be part of the C7/C10 5 year deal with C7 getting FNF and C10 getting the finals?? Without the need for a coin toss???
