A timely reminder tonight I heard that internet blogs/forums can land authors of posts, or the site administrators, in legal trouble for breaching the injunction. Seems it applies to us too - well done to the Mods on here for their approach on this one.

As for the documents previously 'found in the gutter' now apparently stolen, to C7

I hope the AFL comes to its senses. All players should be randomly tested in and out of season and all the positive results published. It is the only way to put credibility into the commercial enterprise called AFL. [I don't think it can be called sport while there is not guarantee all is fair and even.]

I also think the same policy should also apply to police, teachers, hospital staff... etc. etc.

If we are serious about our society having drug problems we shouldn't be trying to tackle the problem by trying to stop 3rd world farmers growing the stuff. We should be getting serious about the use, and promotion of use, at home.

Lets hear it for Zero Tolerance!

Which is why I said that the secrecy behind this drug issue is what causing these leaks to happen.

Yes, ok, it wasn't creditable of Channel 7 to have released leaks, about this or the Jason Akermanis matter, but to me, this is what the AFL deserves by not being tough on the drugs issue.

For me the AFL seems like some sort of secret clan at the moment . trys to hide everything then crack an absolute spaz when anything gets released in the media ...
memo to AFL if you dont want the AFL name dragged through the mud with allegations of this that or the other become totally transperent and let things be known to all ...
this will stop rumour and inuendo getting around and slagging our great game . time 4 you guys (the AFL )to put your balls on the line and say zero tolerence to drugs and spasticated behaviour from players that are well paid and role models to the general public ....
end of rant anyone else feel this way ?

From today's 'tiser

Charges laid over AFL drug scandal
MARK BUTTLER, MELBOURNE
August 28, 2007 02:15am

TWO people have been charged over the theft of private medical records at the centre of the latest AFL drugs controversy.

The documents were reported stolen from a Melbourne rehabilitation clinic on Saturday, hours after Channel Seven broadcast allegations of widespread drug abuse at a top Melbourne club and cited the medical records as evidence.

Detectives yesterday executed search warrants on Seven's Melbourne offices.

A 36-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were last night charged with theft.

They will appear in court in October.

The woman is alleged to have sold the documents to Seven for $3000. Seven's actions have also come under police scrutiny.

Police are understood to be checking for any link between the source of the story and anybody connected with the clinic.

A police spokesman said some documents had been seized from Seven and that the station had been co-operative with detectives.

An injunction preventing public identification of the players and other details will stand at least until a court hearing on Thursday.

Are the "theives" employees of

a) Channel 7
b) The medical practice
c) Just random people looking for an easy outlet of cash
or d) All of the above

Interesting to see some footy legends calling for the public naming and shaming of the players.
I we've all got connections to a few AFL players or people who have played, party drugs such as ecstasy are fairly common, and i don't know if this can be discussed, but is the nature of these drugs known, are we talking party drugs or performance enhancing drugs?

the 2 ppl arrested seem to get lucky with which drug rehabilition centre AFL players go .. why is that

1) they themsevles go to the clinic
2) work in the clinic or know some1 that does
3) just DAMN LUCKY!!!

I have only heard the nature of the said drugs as being "illicit".

I guess this basically leaves it wide open for interpretation - but you would assume that they are recreational drugs, not performance enhancing, as I think the AFL would be taking a different approach to the situation if they were.

If that is the case, then it's no real secret that some AFL players are on the regular recreational kick.
