Contenders for 2006

Talk on the national game

Postby Dutchy » Wed Mar 08, 2006 3:28 pm

Didnt mention Flags won REB...touchy subject down at Sleepy Hollow?

St Kilda were with out Riewoldt- thats it - and the win broke their 16 game winning streak at the Dome

Time will tell - look forward to the season, Brisbane are my other Smokey - if they can find some forwards their midfield and defence is still right up there and not as old as many think

well i think that the cats are contenders for this season, given that they have the best draw for a long long time, and if they cant finish minimum top 4, and should be top 2, then that will be it for them.

ill be backing the cats to play in the G/f!!!!! take a few g/f quinellas with sportsbet.

No, it's not a waste- he (she?) is backing the Cats to make the GF, not win it. The Cats have no problem getting there, just once they arrive, they're not quite sure what to do.

Alphabetical order in sub-groupings...

Top 4
Adelaide
St Kilda
West Coast
Western Bulldogs

Bottom Half of Top 8
Fremantle
Geelong
Melbourne
Sydney

Top Half of Bottom 8
Brisbane
Collingwood
Kangaroos
Richmond

Bottom 4
Carlton
Essendon
Hawthorn
Port Power

The only switch I could see would be Collingwood/Freo

Bulldogs, not quite yet prepared to jump on there wagon, plenty sides have finished a season off well and not front up the following year..... Biggest concern is there lack of depth in the big man department, in addition there midfield still are a little green and may be a bit up and down.

Freo, once again not prepared to jump on board, Farmer, Headland, Medhurst all strong at home but can not travel, in addition I am not a big fan of Connolly, he does not seem to have a plan B when things don't go there way and discipline has been a real issue during his time at the club.

St Kilda, great midfield, good forwad line but lack a quality ruckman and there defence seems thin, also have struggled to keep key players fit and heathy for an entire season, most importantly Thomas could not coach a greasy finger up a pigs bum, too predictable........

Essendon, Melb, Nth Melb, Port, Brisbane, will all challenge for the bottom half of the 8, luck and injuries will have a big say, but Essendon with 18 out of 20 games either at the MCG or Telstra Dome surely have a dream draw to make the 8

Conceed? NEVER. 5th spot flattered the Roos immensely last season and your percentage and finals performance against what proved to be an inept Port one week later was far more telling where Kosi played and just how fit G Train wasn't when you guys were up early and firing.

Time will tell o Dutch one.

I'll conceed that the Shinboners have a certain spirit about them, which no other club seems to have. They have reguralrly played above themselves, & seem to do well out of 'no-name' recruits. Under-rate them at your own peril- anyone remember them flogging* Port by 90 points, when they were at their peak?

Remember Port flogging them by 80 odd points a week before we slipped into football oblivion?
