The Nick Gill Appreciation Thread

Postby Wedgie » Sun Aug 26, 2007 10:21 am

Great to see the way Nick Gill's playing, he was everywhere at one stage last night.
A few negative nellies that were ruing his selection by Adelaide earlier in the year would be quiet now.
He's taken his game straight form the SANFL to the AFL in a fairly small timeframe too.
Congrats on a great game last night Gilly, a friendlier and more lovable bloke you'd never meet.

watched some highlights from C10 on "after the game" show. they gave big wraps on gilly except when they compared him to a "mop of hair" PERRIE!!! from what i saw he presented himself well. PERRIE to play in the red and white's me thinks

he was excellent last night and everytime he goes near the ball there is a "Gilly" call around the ground

Serious question, is he potentially Adelaides first decent mature aged recruit? after a few failures

Christ, comparing Gill to Perrie would be like comparing me to Robran. Perrie will have 3 more games in red and white and then back to his home state I'd imagine.

I was watching Nick Gill last night. He looks pretty strong to me and goes in hard. I kept thinking to myself 'is this the player that those blokes have been bagging all season long?'. Good luck to the lad. Sounds like he's done it the hard way.

That kid going 'Gilly Gilly Gilly' when he snagged a goal made me laugh LOL.

What is the definition of a mature age recruit, Proplyzia won his second chance at the age of 21, as this is outside the typical drafting age, I would condiser Proplyzia as a mature age recruit, and consider him a success

I would consider recruiting Hudson as a mature age recruit and a success

On the concept of recruiting mature age recruit, I believe we will start seeing more clubs recruit mature age recruits, their are some outstanding 20-24 year old players around the country in the state leagues who would offer more value than an 18 year old picked at #72 in the draft

Be prepared for clubs to start drafting mature age recruits from the state leagues with their late picks, this is wonderful for footy

On Gill, I love his speed and agility, his kicking is improving and he gives a real contest, I am looking forward to see what he can do after a injury free pre-season

yep good call on Hudson, Im thinking guys 23+ that maybe thought their chance had passed....Im thinking of a few Crow failures like Atkinson, Richardson etc

Agree I would love to see more of these players come thru, maturity is a wonderful thing for some footballers, is also excellent for the SANFL if it can be a breeding ground for 2nd chances

I'd dispute that. He plays a good quarter or two before getting dropped - this was his first game for some time.

I was a 'negative nellie' earlier in the season and appear to have been proven wrong...

Well done to Gill. His effort is an example to others in the team. As for his kicking, Brant Chambers is a perfect example that you can teach an inaccurate player to kick straight.

His defensive effort in Brisbane's F50 was excellent, right in front of us, to take a mark and goal moments later shows how well he's adapted to the pace of the AFL, Niel Craig pointed out how good his work rate is and his aerobic capacity was up with Burton's. Shortly after goaling he was given a spell on the bench, as he was walking 'round the boundry the members crowd went ballistic cheering him on, some guy at the back yells out "Go you good Rooster", I think Gilly enjoyed it and had a bit of smile.
I think it says alot for the SANFL and it's quality.

Will have to admit I sat on the fence with Gill's draft selection at the start of the season. when north played @ unley I saw first hand that his work rate was up there and the only negative was his kicking.

Well done Clarrie. It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong....unless you have to do it as often as I do! 8)
