News of the Eagles match followers dropping from 4000 in 2012 to 1500 is shocking,
especially for such a highly successful club.
Note the average member age is 56 years.
Interest in the SANFL continues to diminish by the year.
The SANFL has got to do a lot lot better in everything they do.

Have a good look at programming,byes and split rounds,
only 18 games in 23 weeks of footy!
The season only goes for about 6 months yet most clubs are struggling but are closed for business for 1 month (2 months if they miss the finals).
Give the followers and members what they want,
games of footy to watch not reasons to defect to other sports and competitions.
If lots more promotion of the league compotition is not forthcoming guess what the attendance numbers will be going in 2018.
Not to mention club's membership numbers!

Only diehard fans will show the initiative to buy a digital pass, this definitely doesn't help grow the league beyond the current boundaries of support/interest.

Personally I will rarely sit down to watch a match not involving my team, but I will listen to any match on the radio as I drive around.

Fingers crossed for some future radio coverage. Even the NPL (top level of soccer in the state) has radio coverage.

Looking at the Eagles financials, the loss in membership fees from the previous year equates to their financial loss for this year.
Like your point on the seasons length. Clubs have basically nothing happening in the longer off season. Have we reduced our season length to accomodate the AFL sides and their requirements at the end of the season.

You just gotta have radio coverage. End of story.

Whether it's a cost thing or the radio stations are alientated or whatever, it's vital.

Listening on the way to the game, during the game, after the game, to other games. In the car, in the yard, while you're jogging, at the game, through your phone, on your computer, it's easy access.

The digital pass is ok but access is one-dimensional and suits one audience - the one sitting at home on their computer. They're not at the ground and that's the important factor.

You want bums on seats at grounds creating and adding to the atmosphere, contributing to the gate receipts and buying food and drink. You won't get that with a digital pass. You'll get that with well-priced tickets, good footy and people knowing they can listen to the radio. If you must keep tickets at $14 for adults so as not to totally devalue the product, convince others or the family to come - $20 for two adults and limitless kids (who are free anyway). Great deal.

Radio is the future. Not this digital pass stuff.

I mean, our league games already have commentators. May as well have that commentary broadcasting to radio.

Thats the staggering thing, other sports and even other country leagues are expanding into radio coverage and free live streaming, all while the SANFL remove radio coverage and charge for streaming!

The other thing is, when you’re at the game watching your club play & want to know the scores “around the grounds” the only way now (with no radio coverage) is through the SANFL app - which crashes/freezes most f#cking weeks!
It really is so sad yet so, so laughable.

My internet connection is shit. Being a little isolated the only coverage I can get is through satellite so watching a game with the digital pass is a nightmare as it just keeps buffering.
Radio had its hiccups but it was a damn site better than what I have now
