Beau Thai ( lol ) - Semaphore Road
Popped in to see some friends in their new home at Semaphore, went for a walk to find some dinner on Friday night.
5 of us wandered in, the place was busy and we hadn't booked, luckily got a table.
We went Banquet #3 - $35 per person
Entree :
Money bags
Crispy Prawn
Panadan Chicken
2nd course :
Tom Yum soup
Mains :
Crispy Beef
Prawn Choo Chee
Beau Thai Green veggies
Chili Pork Ribs
Lemongrass Chicken
Rice
The entree was excellent, the money bag nice and big, the crispy prawns just as nice, the pandan chicken in the dipping sauce top notch.
We ordered the Tom Yum "mild" spice level, they came out medium. I'm not a big fan of spice, nor is Mrs and Miss Boon, our friends were ok with it. I struggled through to try and expose myself to something new, we asked if we could replace the two for Mrs and Miss with mild, no problems and a snappy return to the table with two new bowls. Well played.
Fair wait from the soup to the mains, probably 25-30 minutes after we finished the soups they started to bring out the mains.
The crispy beef was awesome, the prawn choo chee a little creamy but not bad, the veggies were crispy but a bit bland, the lemongrass chicken was not very lemon-grassy but the chili pork ribs were just awesome. I could have smashed two plates of them and the beef.
Few beers, couple of softies, total for 5 of us was just over $200 so around $40 per person. Pretty good value as I was more than happy with the food being on the mild side of Thai spice level, a couple of the dishes a little bland, the service ok without being great.
For mine, 6.5/10. Next time I think we'll go an entree and a dish as that would be under $30 per person ( entrees around $6-7 and most mains $17-22 ).
Nicer setting than Rose Garden, food more to my liking but I'm not sure true Thai food lovers would prefer this over the Garden.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.
