Hawthorn 2018
Time for a new thread.
2018 will be an interesting year for the Hawthorn Football Club. A few more old boys out, including the General's retirement that only lasted a week or so. Good luck to him at Brisbane.
The list in transition, and watching the development of the younger blokes, Burton etc will be interesting.
Hopefully a bit better run with injuries this year will see us sneak back into the 8. I don't see the Hawks as a serious contender to the title though. Top 4 at absolute best with everything going our way, yes even the umps.
Last hurrah you would think for Silk, been a pleasure to watch him play, and he has repeatedly made me eat my words.
Carn the Hawks!

They are too good not to be competitive, but I cant see them progressing too much on last year unless everything goes right. Around the same for them I think

I tend to agree, but we live in hope.

Yep, outside the 8. When looking at where I think sides will finish I always work backwards from the top down and see if I have them in the 8.
I don't see Hawthorn ahead of Adelaide, Sydney, GWS, Port, Richmond, Geelong, Essendon, Melbourne or the Bulldogs. For mine about where they were last year, around 8-10 wins tops.
Some quality additions to the line up coming back from injury, however still very reliant on a few guns to keep the back half in order and I think they'll struggle in the big man department in the middle and forward of centre.

I think with Frawley and Brichall back, down back, it frees Gunston to go back up forward. Though Gunston was exposed when he is forced to be the #1 forward. Roughie probably play up forward, with less pinch hitting through the midfield. I though Big Boy was pretty good last year, so we at least break even in the centre bounces, and around the ground. Everyones favorite silly boy Sicily will play at both ends.
Bruces favorite can hopefully stay sound.

Agree another big forward would be good. TIm O'Brien really need to own a spot in the forwards.
We do get Ceglar back this year who isn't brilliant but he is a competent ruck. I really want to see Pittonet start to command game time.
Frawley, Stratton and particularly Birchall would be great to get back, I'd like to see Burton up the field or forward.
Would be happy to see Lovell get an uninterrupted run at it too.

Burton might be an option forward if Gunston continues to play a role defensively.

Re: Hawthorn 2018
If we have a half decent run with injuury we will be top 4, you heard it here first.
For a fair chunk of last year we were in the best 2 teams.
The only question for me is how much of an impact losing Hodgey will have.
Gunston will play forward with Roughead, Breust, Rioli, Puopolo and Obrein/Sicily, the band wiill be back together.
Impey/Smith the outside runners
Defence will be sound enough, Stratton was a huge loss, Frawley, Birch, Hardwick and Burton very good
Midfield is our problem, but IF Jaeger plays 18 games we finish top 4 no doubt, probably need Langford or one of the rookies to have break out years

Many another year closer to falling off the cliff

Re: Hawthorn 2018
besides mitchell and omeara, who is the hawks midfield? looks very thin in there.
With roughy and burgoyne a year older, i cant see them continuing to have the impact they have had either.

More on the wing though right? Smith and shield are good wingers but depth in the midfield I was more thinking

Think you will find Shields plays more mid than wing... we've got Hendo now

Dont know why i bother with you blokes that dont watch anyone but the Crows but Shiels is a tackling machine in the mids, one of our taggers if the situation calls for it, hes a three time premiership player, but thats alright you Crows fans keep beating it over all your premiership players.
Id rather have our mids than yours with Sloane in it whos output relies solely on the whim of the opposition coach.
