The post seems to have reappeared. Or maybe my mind was playing tricks on me?
Sturt's contributions to the 2018 draft:
Callum Coleman-Jones to Richmond at pick 20
Charlie Ballard to the Gold Coast Suns at pick 42
Houlahan to Essendon to Essendon with pick 49
Mitch Crowden to Fremantle at pick 59
Brandon Zerk-Thactcher to Essendon at pick 66
I wonder if that'll get you close to the number of former North juniors currently on AFL lists? Pre this draft that was the highest number by quite a bit!
Every club goes through it, I can recall Westies getting hammered by the draft a while back.
Is there a breakdown of SANFL clubs and players in AFL? I know my club gets hit every year. Is it worth identifying and developing player for AFL clubs to take them for peanuts.
Not that I know of Goddy, that was my motivation for making a summary of the Sturt lads that have gone.
Looking at that list I am sort of feeling that the cup is half full rather than empty. There is only one player there that has played league for Sturt, and I think it was about 9 games. While I would prefer they all stayed , players of AFL standard WILL be drafted and that is the loss you wear.
When it hurts is when your league regulars, that you rely on to win games, suddenly get the call up to another club. Looking at that list Sturt's league premiership side was basically untouched.
Good luck to the lads. Thank God they are all going interstate. Wished they all went to Carlton if I had a choice.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
