Crows next captain - Thoughts??

Postby SCD » Tue Aug 21, 2007 7:38 pm

I know this season and our season isn't over yet..
but I've heard a fair bit on Sunday's football coverage and a few other media outlets recently about how good a leader Goodwin will be now that Roo has decided to retire... I don't think this is the best option for the Crows...

Let's be completely honest, Goodwin has 2 - 3 seasons at best left in him and while he has been a great stand in, don't think he should be there for the real job....

I like the idea of a Scott Thompson or Ben Rutten.. a 25 - 26 year old bloke who plays every week and will be around for the next 7 - 8 years to lead the club.. These blokes look like natural leaders (especially Thompson) and for me would be a better option then the "short term" fix of Goodwin....

Anyone else have an opinion??
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

Van Berlo may well turn out to be the star he promises to be,but too much to soon may not help him,he may thrive, but who knows?

For me,Thompson will get it.Media profile,mid fielder,mid 20's.Done.

Rutten for me, he has the capability to lead the side for the next 5 years

but I feel the club may look at a co-capt strategy

Goody and Rutten

Goodwin's age is obviously a concern, hoever the flip side is if the Crows finish as low in the next few years as many believe, he would oversee a rebuilding phase and a new leader could then take the reigns of a team closer to achieving success?

I think Goodwin, 2 time premiership player, should have an opportunity to captain the side even if it's only for 2 seasons or so. Thompson or Rutten could take over in a couple of seasons when they'll still be 27-28 and can have a good run at it then.

Goodwin for the next two seasons.

When he retires either Thompson or VB to take over.

Lleyton Hewitt. 8)

I can't tell you how relieved I am that I am missing out on the Roo hype. I hear it's pretty full on if you don't happen to be a Cows supporter.
