Congratulations to Brett Ratten, appointed last night for two years as the coach of the Blues. IMO a very good choice.

Now for Melbourne, Essendon & Fremantle...

Good choice,I think not. Who would want to go to a club whose list is going to tread water for 2 more years when (here is the killer) upon the young guys achaieving thier full potential, become a competetive unit,on and off the field.

IMO,Ratten is on a hiding to nothing.Carlton saved money on a recruiting agency by appointing on of there own,one who has been a key part of a sinking ship for many years.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

He was probably just desperate for a coaching job, so was willing to take what he could get. Probably no real expectations at the Blues either.

Melb released their short list today, I must admit, I was amused

Connolly is a certainty to get the Dee's job

Who would you choose Booney? Bond and McKenna were the other two on the short list...This is Ratts first year back at the Blues since he retired so unsure where you get the "key part of the sinking ship" from. He retired in 2003, was assistant at Melbourne in 2004, coached the VCFL side in 2005, and Norwood to the Grand Final in 2006.
IMO, Two years is a good contract length. Three is one too many, IMO. If Ratts proves his worth in those two years he will get a extension, if he doesn't look again. He has very good credential's, and is proud to be back and part of the Carlton Football Club as it begins it's climb...

He wasn't that desperate either as he pulled out of the Melbourne gig, before the interview stage, and before his appointment at CFC.
