Ed Cowan can't get a gig in the starting 11 for NSW. Crazy stuff.

Only won the shield batting trophy last year with a 74 average.

I reckon Dalton in, Valente out.

Two out of Zampa, Richardson and Worrall
Alex Ross misses out.
Can't imagine we'd go into a Shield game at AO without a spinner but it is a day/night fixture so maybe. Would think though that Richardson is the bowler to miss out.
This is Tony Clifton! A name to respect! A name to fear!

Carey playing for a spot in Aussie team, can't bat 7. It's the reason he hasn't made a ton yet, gets stuck batting with the tail end most of the time. Bats before Cooper IMO.

Agree with Dalton in, and Ross missing. Question will be whether Head intends to bowl overs, if yes then Richo & Worrall, if no then Zampa & Worrall.

How bizarre that the two fighting for a spot are Aussie representatives.

Do we always play a full strength NSW team first up?

Correct me if I am wrong, but hasn't he led the run scoring in the Shield for the past 3 seasons?
Batshit crazy to leave him out, even if he is making way for blokes lining up for Baggy Green selection.
Heck- move over to SA. I'd have him at the top!

Cowan scored the most runs last season, Dunk in 15/16 and Voges in 14/15.valleys07 wrote:The Dark Knight wrote:Nic Maddinson getting a gig before him. Disgusting. #freeridevalleys07 wrote:Ed Cowan can't get a gig in the starting 11 for NSW. Crazy stuff.

Partly. Think he has the most runs OVER the past 3 seasons, but hasn't led the runs in EACH of the seasons except last.

That would be it. Got the wording wrong.

Re: Australia Domestic Season 2017/18
Axed New South Wales cricketer Ed Cowan has accepted the fact his days in international cricket are over, but he is still baffled by Australia's selection process where they favour potential over proven talent.
The reigning Steve Waugh Medallist was the Sheffield Shield's highest run-scorer last season yet still found himself out of New South Wales' team list for their season opener against South Australia as captain Steve Smith opted for in-form batsman Daniel Hughes.
Smith admitted his involvement in the controversial snub, revealing Hughes was in the mix for a potential shock Ashes selection this summer.
''The whole selection policy of not picking your best team in Test cricket, T20 cricket, fifth grade cricket, I like the meritocracy of performance, but in this case they've decided not to do that,'' Cowan told Fox Sports' Bill and Boz.
''That's fine, that's their call.''
Cowan was pleased that Smith approached him in person to explain his reasoning, and while he may not agree, he can understand the Australian captain's decision.
“You can deal with honest feedback in that sense,” he said.
“It’s a lot easier than things going on and people saying this and that — to have the Test captain say ‘he got picked because we think he can be a Test cricketer’.
“I don’t agree with that selection policy, but it’s the Australian Test captain, it’s his team.”
Opening Australian batsman David Warner had nothing but praise for Cowan's replacement and is keen to get a feel for his game out on the pitch.
"He's (Hughes) an exceptional talent and he's a clean hitter of the ball. He's got a lot of patience and he hits all 360 degrees," Warner said.
"If you're playing at this level at the moment, you're obviously a good player. We all came through the same roots.
"He's got composure, he's patient, and he really gets into his innings.
"You saw in the JLT Cup his form's great and hopefully he can carry that form into the Shield stuff."

$0
Been free for a number of years now. Beauty of Adel Oval too heading down and watching a few sessions - always a good vantage point no matter where you choose to sit.
