Heart breaking. :(

Shit hope they are OK, what street in Gladstone?

Sorry to hear mate :(

Best wishes to the both of them for a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately, no amount of kind words and sympathy can replace 80 years worth of treasured memories (both physical and mental) and family heirlooms :(

Live there for 6 years of my childhood from 6-11, one thing I always remember is the great people/characters of the town which no doubt they contributed to. Im sure the town will provide great support once they are healthy.

Literally left with the clothes on their back, plus some smalls on the line at the time. :(

78 and 74, how the **** do you "start again" at that age?

Feeling your pain mate, happened to my Grandparents in the Pinery fires, insurance didn't cover it, they never really recovered, both of their health fell apart, so much to the point my nanna sat around waiting to die as my pa was very sick in hospital, he came to his senses only once he'd realised she had passed (3 months ago), unfortunately he doesn't seem to far behind.

They were quite active in their early 80's pre-fire.

I've struggled to comment on this thread all day, it's kicked me in the throat, best wishes to them :(

Old age. Struggling today after a 12 hour plus session yesterday.
Mind you I've still downed 8 beers and it's only 1.40 pm here.
Could be time for a swim or a nanna nap I feel.
The fact it's 34 and we haven't seen a drop of rain since we've been here hasn't helped.

Harden up!
Get on the scotchies or bourbons to get you going again.

That might be too difficult due to old age also...

Yes to both of the above except I was talking about chicks, not Port supporting females.

So one week on and Aunty is back up in the Laura Hospital, still struggling with breathing ( hasn't been in great health for a while ) and looks like she might have another few days up there.

Uncle is on his way there today to be with her, he's had a couple of trips to theatre to have skin removed and is now able to open his eyes better and is on the improve on all fronts.

Insurance company, from what I gather, has been nothing short of sensational. Already have deposited $20k into a bank account to get them started, has found 2 places for rent that they will cover for up to one year and have been in touch with the daughter daily.

Investigators have said they'll probably never know the cause as the damage was so severe the only remaining structure was too dangerous to go in and will need to be simply leveled. The only things in the room where the fire started were a couple of alarm clock / radios, the solar inverter on the outside wall next to the power box. Obviously this is the area of concern, not really anything left of it.

Good to hear. We usually only hear the bad ones when they actually are in the absolute minority

I've got nothing but praise for Shannon's. I've had two claims with them, both major plumbing issues and I couldn't rate them more highly.
