SAAFL have tried this before and it failed. Back in 1996 IIRC Division 5 was split into north and south. By 1997 it was back how it should have been.

A little different back then as it was caused by the NMFL folding and in influx of clubs all from the northern suburbs.

It was a bit of a shambles with some massive margins.

At the end of 1995 the SAFA folded and 9 clubs entered the SAAFL in 1996. Athelstone, Edwardstown, Salisbury North, Flinders Park, Pooraka, Plympton, Salisbury West, PNU and Adelaide Tigers who became Trans Adelaide after a merge. The competition went to Premier 1 and Premier 2 along with North and South in some divisions. Not sure how many NMFL clubs came in as well but it took a year to sort things out and for the better. Personally I think the current situation is fine, if it ain't broke........
