Spooked into it. Massive call...
Hinkley v Dew or Francou? Come on.
Hinkley everyday of the week.
Agreed. Would have been preferable for maybe 2 year extension on lesser money? Now, no doubt would have got a decent pay rise, with an extra year, all cause Kochie opened up his mouth and Kens team took full advantage. And rightly so.
Francou is going nowhere near an AFL senior coaching role
Dew on the other hand...would have been handy. Like his attitude.

Yeah but 3yrs is a BIG gamble.
In what regard? Finished 5th, blooded a heaps of youth and before the beat a top 8 side bullshit rolls out in long term benefits Ken has done some great work for Port Adelaide in season 2017. Yes has flaws, who doesn't. Look at Longmire on the weekend.
I'd much rather follow Port Adelaide with our future looking a lot better than at least a dozen other clubs!
As stated Hinkley v's the names mentioned = Hinkley everyday of the week.
Port v Gold Coast Jesus may as well of been Port v Nth Pines. Hinkley certainly comes out the winner of the Gold Coast interest in a monitory value.

In regards that he had a lot riding on this year - if they missed finals he was gone.. 3yrs is a long time on top of his current 12 months still left to serve, what happens if it all goes pear shaped over the next 24 months? Suddenly he's sacked, you're paying him out and then forking out money for a new coach as well.
I think 3ys is too long, leaves too much room for comfort and complacency. 2yrs would've been ample.

It's a massive gamble.
end of 2014 he was a Ruck away from winning the flag. end of 2015 he was a key forward away from winning the flag. end of 2016 when they get Ryder and Monfries back, winning the flag. end of 2017, it's ok, he's blooding the kids. Give him a chance for the next 4 years!

You know the Hinkley to GC rumours were around before that speech, right?
absolutely remarkable.

Of course, but the big panic pow wow on the weekend would have driven the price up from the offer that would have been on the table. One of Kens bargaining points would have been the disrespect from the boss if he was bargaining.

Utter nonsense.
The thing that drove up Ken's price was Gold Coast, not Koch.
