They're just posts from people who were unhappy about Brighton being offered D3 (and MP being offered D4) which has not necessarily been the standard for new clubs entering the League.

No doubt they didn't actually understand what they were saying, but the fact they thought the premise of a now D2 club playing in D7 was reasonable highlights how little idea many people north of Cross Road underrate the Southern Leagues - which was another example of my overall point that people complaining about $15 for a GF ticket are obviously ignorant of how other competitions are organised.

I interpret those posts as posters (who at a moment of frustration) who were more happy to cut off their nose to spite the face and were quite aware that Brighton would have a reasonable chance of 5 straight flags.

I have practically no knowledge of the SFL. My only interaction has been when we used to play an annual trial game against Morphetville Park and reading newspaper articles about the Aldingas of the world. From that it's pretty hard to get a read on the standard of the top 4-5

Well who knows. I read it that they might win D7 or maybe D6 but once they face the might of D5 and D4 they'd find out who the big boys are. Mostly because that's what the premise was - that Brighton were "robbing" those D6-5-4 clubs a chance at promotion. Which is laughable. As proven now.

And that's fine. I have no knowledge of the APFL. Point being before I sprouted an opinion of how poor something is or how badly something is being run, I would tend to do a little bit of digging around to form a reasonable foundation for my thoughts.

But nah "$15 is a rort for local footy!!!"

nek minnit posters from other leagues confrim you have to pay every damn week.

At least it goes to the clubs if you have to pay all year round. Saturday is a one off for most clubs. Where does the money go? You say grassroots like were? and how much?

Goes to the League as income.

If the League doesn't make this income it needs to make it other ways.

The easiest way for the League to make up this otherwise lost income is to increase calls. Which comes from the Clubs.

The League budgets about $100k for Grand Finals, which is revenue used to run the League

Take out the $100k and every Club would have to pay in calls each year around $1,500

so every club gets a $1,500 rebate each year because of the one off Grand Final charge

Its not hard after this year to work it out, my understanding both teams/squads are pretty similar to last year where Brighton lost the Prelim to M/Vale and Morphie Parks finished 7th and lost 1st week of finals by 192 points to Reynella.

Both are now D2 & D3 clubs in 2018.

Top end of the SFL is clearly at least mid range D2 standard. Unfortunately the top end of the comp doesn't get discussed much.

It costs to get into all SFL games, usually $5, before 11am it is $2, this is for 5 games of footy though and a lot of the time the gate is managed by a local community group like rotary who take a slice.

SFL Finals are $10, good $ making exercise but I believe this keeps the affiliation fees very low compared to other comps. 4,500 at last years GF so you can do the sums.
