South Australian football leagues, who rates best?

Post by Footychannel »

An ongoing debate i find myself in is, which leagues are the highest quality in South Australia?
Could anyone rank them?
Ie.
SAAFL
DIV1
Div2
Div3
HFL
RMFL
MOUNT GAMBIER LEAUGE
BAROSSA
Adelaide Plains
SFL
and the rest.

Which would be the top 6? and why?

GSFL is probably strongest country league these days.

I understand they the inter leauge games are great.
But does everyone send their best team?

Also I understand that the best 22 play in the interleauge
Doesn't neccerily mean the leauge is stronger.
I'm talking overall competition rather than just the best 22.

How would the SAAFL Division 1 stack up? Would have thought they would be up there?
And maybe Naracoorte leauge?

I think their record in previous years against SFL had been pretty good.

Points system/salary cap combination would be diluting the strength of a lot of country leagues, including GSFL, whilst the SFL would probably have benefitted.

I would rank them from what i have seen over last 3-4 years as follows:

1.GSFL-better comp overall than SFL. No 200pt hidings every week. Bottom can and has beat top in recent years.
2.SFL
3.Hills Div 1
4.RMFL
5.Barossa
6.RFL
7.Kntfl
8.Mallee
9.Hills Div 2
10. Mid South East
11. Adelaide plains
12.Riverland independant
13.hills Div 3

Have not seen the rest. As for comparing Div 1 to GSFL...it would be close but at the end of the day who cares about metro footy. Its lame!

I always felt Riverland footy was Div 3 to high Div 4 standard.
Independent footy is about C3 these days, I suspect.

The top D1R sides would be well up the ladder of D3.

Most of 2016 PAOC D1R side would have played D1, D2 or D3 at other clubs

Seen a couple of Indy's games over the last 2 years and I honestly didn't think there could be a worse standard of league in the state.

Besides one team, it would be a lot lower now. Actually, the top team would be div 2-3 standard, the bottom team around div 7 this year

Independents even lower now again, standard is continuing to drop

You would hope out of those 3 Div1 rates the highest otherwise something is very wrong with the promotion/relegation system, not sure why you include Div2 & 3 to be honest :?
North Adelaide F C : Champions of Aust 1972 : Premiers 1900, 02, 05, 20, 30, 31, 49, 52, 60, 71, 72, 87, 91

I was moreso adding them in there for the sake of ranking the leauges in a predicted order.
For example div 2 saafl would rank higher or lower than HFL div 1

It all depends a on how you are ranking the leagues. If you are looking at the top end talent of each league or as a whole. SFL is hard to assess as it is now a league with heavy losses due to the two divs becoming one. kntfl is a strong league but relies heavily on players travelling as their population is small. Ammo's is structured for every side to at least be competitive, especially in the higher divs. The stronger league generally have higher populations to get players. I personally think div 1 is the highest level outside of league football.

I haven't seen any SAAFL because it has no atmosphere compared to country footy but I'm sure the standard of div1 would be right up there with the two southern leagues
