Gold Coast traded, but GWS had the alternative thinking to hoard them all & wear the early punishment.

It's paid off for one and failed miserably for the other. Gold Coast have nobody to blame but themselves. Karmichael Hunt, Campbell Brown, Nathan Bock, Josh Fraser, Jared Brennan, Jarrod Harbrow.

A couple of these boys had "questionable" off field records before they hit the party strip, no wonder the culture of the club is shit house and many of the younger players decided to walk away from on field thumpings and off field tom foolery.

Yeah good point about the culture. Having a coke dealer in your team for a while wouldn't have helped lol

West coast did alright

WTF?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-08/l ... s-new-deal

THE BRISBANE Lions have secured young key forward Josh Schache for a further two seasons, blindsiding Melbourne rivals who had started to circle the talented No.2 draft pick.

Schache, who was out of contract at the end of this season, has signed on until the end of 2019, declaring he wanted to repay the faith the club had put in him as a teenager.

"Having been at the Lions for a couple of years and seeing where we are headed, I’m really excited about our future," Schache told the club's website.

"I enjoy living in Brisbane and playing footy with a committed and hard working group."

No disrespect to the young man, but what the hell has he done to deserve this much attention or power to hold a club at ransom???

Smart. Brisbane would have sharpened their pencil a fair bit to hold him, he now has two and a half years to show why he was the no.2 draft pick, and not play like a rookie listed player. Once he does that, his contract to a Melbourne club in 2020 will be lucrative.
I would suggest a lot of Melbourne clubs were low balling him at the moment thinking he was a certainly to want to come home.

My guess is his manager told him he'd get him a shedload and move to Melbourne and when he actually shopped him around he came back with dick.

Xavier Richards got discussed and he signed the next bit of paper the Lions thrust in his direction.

Think the Melbourne clubs were far from low balling him. Some of the offers were way overs if you believe the media.

Good for Brisbane to get a win (even if it's only off-field!).
I apologise.

They were cooling due to Brisbane wanting potentially a couple of first rounders for him. Most clubs only wanted him if it involved little damage draft pick wise

$350k base and with incentives could get $500k a season. Not bad to play NEAFL

Brisbane made it pretty clear they wouldn't let him walk in the first instance.

From there they would have given his management a guide, let's say he's determined to leave, as to what they want in return. They might have said a 1st rounder and maybe a future 2nd rounder or a player, perhaps. The manager goes to the Melbourne clubs and says for a 1st rounder ( and some thing ) as well as 4 years at $400k per year, or some stupid demand.

The two or three ( Richmond and Collingwood ) would have laughed their collective arses off. He signs with Brisbane.

Exactly.
And he has more chance of playing AFL at Brisbane as they are struggling currently and probably will for another 2-3 years and by then his value has increased enough to move to Melbourne if he then chooses.

I watch a lot of Brisbane (bloody son) and he is an over rated player ATM but he really needs to grow into his giraffe type body. When he and Hipwood grow into their bodies they are going to have 2 very good forwards which will lead to a successful period
