I did, fantastic article and well done to the Eagles for that, really going above and beyond the call, great to see.
And well done to the others in the SANFL who contribute and well done to the Advertiser for the article as Im quite often critical of them not putting more good news articles in the paper.
I know North contribute to the Make a Wish foundation with every home match raffle and Im constantly amazed at the work Barrie Robran does for charit not to mention the fantastic stories I hear about Russell Ebert visiting sick/dying people in hospital who idolise him.

Indeed - both stellar players and top blokes to boot.

It's a pity that the current crop of footy stars (particularly AFL-level) only seem to do this type of thing at the behest of thier club's PR department, or if they've gotten into trouble for some stupid off-field incident.

The 70s and 80s really were the golden years of Aussie Rules. Blokes were tough as nails on the field, but well rounded members of the community off it.

Seems the AFL has made them soft on the field and they've become self-obsessed primmadonnas off it...

I think it is important to occasionally highlight these type of activities and events and that all clubs do a lot of great work in the community.

Clubs can be criticised for having/making revenue from Pokies so it is important to note all clubs use that money to provide much for the community with support for junior teams, country leagues, school programmes etc. etc, as well as running a very professional high quality football competition and providing many jobs and services across the state.

Agree completely CD. Personally not a pokies-fan myself, but if we are going to have them they should be in community-based organisations such as SANFL clubs, Grade Cricket clubs and Netball clubs. SA government let the tortoise get away completely with the way they allowed hotels to monopolise the pokies income. Now the perverse situation exists whereby these clubs have to buy special premises or established hotels to get a share of the income that is derived from pokies.

But I guess that's bound to happen when the Hotels Association gains control of those few aspects of state government that weren't already under the influence of organised crime...
