I thought the sub wasnt allowed to be in a catching position? or is that not a rule?

Yep, crap for sure.
How can the rule not be framed so that to overturn a decision it needs both pieces of technology showing the umpire was wrong. Only way the rule couldn't be written like that is if the technology is not absolutely reliable.
