Rule Changes 2017

Post by Wedgie »

AFL General Manager of Football Operations, Mark Evans, today advised clubs that the AFL Commission had considered a number of matters around the Laws of the Game for the 2017 Toyota AFL Premiership Season and approved the following:

Only nominated ruckmen will be able to compete at a contest for a throw-in or ball-up, with players no longer permitted to contest a ruck contest as a third man up

There will be a stricter interpretation of Deliberate Rushed Behinds

The interpretation of where a player draws high contact will be simplified

Stoked about the third man up rule, I've been pushing for 20 years.
Being a ruck man nothing used to annoy me more than some arse clown coming flying through with a raised knee when you're concentrating on the other Ruckman.

Except the deliberate rushed point. Absolutely cowardly and should be punished far harsher

Why? You already get a point for doing nothing.

But teams use it as a ploy to rebound with a quick kick in and score quickly.
I'd be happy if we went back to waiting for the goal umps to wave the flags on a deliberate rushed point

You blokes were pretty good at it making use of Blivcas around the ground.

The rule change will be a punch in the guts to Geelong. Doesn't change the fact I've been after this rule change since when Blitz was in nappies.
Used to shit me no end having some bloke come flying in when you're wrestling a fellow giant for possie .
I couldn't be happier and can't believe it took this long.
Just wish the AFL could magically get rid of some of the scars on my upper body!

Pathetic. The game we once new is becoming femalised. Next thing tackling will be banned.

Should've used the past tense, what with the inception of the exciting new women's league.

Regarding the third man up, how far down is this rule going to be enforced? Are all Leagues going to have to implement this? This could up the going price on Ruckmen and destroy some team’s plans for next season.

Can't say this one bothers me too much. I was of the thinking that 6v6 around a contest becomes 6v5 at ground level if you send a mid up to compete. Doesn't always work in your favour.

Note sure the Dogs with the Bont will like it much! He was all over that shit in the finals series.

Here's a proposal, the Rules of the Game Committee meet every 3 years and not every year!

Although if I was being paid a truck load, I'd be always tinkering to make it look like I actually did work to justify my position.

It's like this. Every year coaches try and come up with ways to better their teams chances by developing an idea. For example the third one up (even though its been around for a while now). Other teams take on the same idea and then all of a sudden the AFL doesn't like it and then makes the change to the rucking rule the next year. Every time something new comes up, and the AFL doesn't like it. There's a change. LEAVE THE BEAUTIFUL GAME ALONE. And with the high tackle rule, Joel Selwood and Lindsay Thomas are going to be pissed.

How about meet up every 10 years or not at all. The rules didn't change as much as they are now back in the 1900's.

So will they one day make it illegal to have a third up in a marking contest? fair dinkum what a joke.
It's going to look like U8s when the ruckmen need to put their hands up for the ruck contest and the umpires says "ok, you and you"

Because they ban third man up?

wowee

Personally I think its neither here nor there. Doesnt bother me.

Greater emphasis on the deliberate rushed behind is a good thing.

The rushing of behinds has been in the game almost since the beginning of time. There's nothing wrong with it.
