Team balance suggests you take in a spinner, especially at the 'Gabba where spinners, Aussie ones, have a very good record. Is it balance or reluctance to drop Bird?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Day night cricket is sensational. It's still test cricket, yet it caters for fans in that you can watch more of it, both at the ground and on tv.

That brings more money to the game which is also sorely needed

How the **** did you deduce that from my comments?

With T20 filling the coffers from those unable to concentrate for any longer than it takes to kill a whore in Grand Theft Auto you can afford to leave Test cricket as it is. I've been to day 1 of both D/N Tests, loved it, great stuff, but as heater duly notes there's no reason to make Adelaide THE D/N test of the series. No harm in holding onto some traditions.

Perths time difference already makes a session at night time for the eastern states. Melb and Sydneys games are wholly in holiday times, so it isn't really needed. That makes adelaide and Brisbane the logical places to hold it. And the fact that they can get 30k+ makes it a no brainer to hold it here.

As Grenville pointed out, some of you just don't get it

Have less of a problem with it in places that don't get crowds, e.g. the Gabba.

However Adelaide over the last decade or so has attracted better crowds per capita than just about any test match in the world. For me having a night test here is like having the AFL GF, the Melbourne Cup or the Clipsal at night. Just not needed.

Wonder what the average crowds have been like in the past two years compared to normal? I'm not sure but I would get they have increased a fair bit especially for non ashes tests.

This also might sound a little silly but the fact we have cracking sunsets also makes a day night test worth it. Adelaide has now become a tourist destination for test cricket which was always the case but now even more so

Yeah you just don't get it......Cricket Australia doesn't need gimmicks for Ashes Test matches as they always get decent crowds. It is simply not needed to be held every series.

Would be great in late jan, where avoiding the midday sun is ideal.
In November it's silly as night time temps get into single digits.

For the ashes I can see your point, but I still don't get the downsides.

What are the downside's to a day/night Test?
I've been to both and I can't see any.....I love them.
Everyone keeps saying to stay with tradition but why?
Why do you need to?

we get it

Last two test in Adelaide still don't beat the 136 000 + patrons that saw the 2006-07 ASHES test match - all this when the capacity was 35 000.

2013-14 test had 153 000 + patrons -s tillw ith a reduced capacity compared to now.

More people saw day 5 agaisnt India in 2014 (24 500) than the two last days of the day night tests (23 000 and 19 000)

Is it increased ground capacity or day night tests that is the factor for increases in crowds lately

As heater says you don't need gimmicks for an ASHES test match to get the crowds in, hence it would be nice to have held the next ASHES test in the day and go back to a day-night test in Dec/Jan 18-19 when India/Sri Lanka tour.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

because red ball cricket is best.

I personally find day test more convenient for my liefestyle and family situation but that's just me.

Next season we are handing the visiting team a massive leg up with a ball that swings more. We can't play a swinging ball as shown by not winning an away series against them since 2001!

I'll go regardless of when it's on but I have found the atmosphere at the last 2 day/night games to have an extra buzz about them.
I know it's still bright and shiny and all.......... and the gloss may wear off of it, but I like them better.

Yeah I understand that but we need to get better at it................. you don't stop playing something coz you are shite at it either.

Drinking beer at Adelaide Oval whilst the sun goes down watching cricket is sensational!

Indians prepare dust bowls on day 1 why can't we avoid swinging conditions?

It's also for tv ratings, not just crowds at games.

Prime time test cricket is absolute gold.

Ok I've found the downside to day night games. I'm home with a chest infection today and I have to wait forever for the cricket to come on lol

I'd say Chadd could take 20 wickets next shield match and not get picked, but that isn't for another two and a half months!
