Finished top 10 in all skills testing, can clearly play it would only be his body type as to why he was overlooked.[/quote] Then why did Jarman play stuff all Reserves football this year and also didn't get picked for the finals....
Cause North had a stack of League players playing in the reserves. Ben is about 2 years away before his body will be ready and crows have already confirmed they will take him in the Rookie Draft as father/son pick
It would appear you have to come from TAC Cup to have a really good chance of being selected.. Or maybe an Academy player who in most cases are over rated compared to some of the talent left on the shelf.
so many people going "what about poor jarman sooky sooky tears cries n all that crap" - i bet 95% of these people have not seen a more than 1 minute of highlights of the boy, all experts with zero evidence

They are probably the same people who also whinge when a player keeps getting selected because his the coaches favourite, because of his name etc etc
Some players simply take time to mature. Plenty of 18-19 years old kids have been drafted and have subsequently failed to meet the expectations of the AFL system, which suggests that they were too young and weren't ready.
As for young Jarman, he's certainly not ready now, but that doesn't mean he might not develop into a serviceable (or better) AFL standard player given some time. He might also turn out to be a completely average footballer. Just goes to show that with all the scouting and sports science, it's really just a raffle.
There seems to an expectation that players must ready to participate in the professional sporting system of the AFL against fully developed and conditioned men when their bodies (and minds, more importantly) are not yet fully ready, and if they're not ready then they're a failure. It's easy to forget that the golden years of SA footy development in the early to mid 1980s had the cream of our crop heading over to the VFL in their early twenties, when they were properly developed men and experienced as footballers, and by and large they dominated for extended periods.

Does that now mean Jarman is a Crows rookie or do they still have to wait until it is their turn. Heard something about a father/son rookie (also for Simpson for Geelong)?
