Hartlett...,went nowhere, Crows wouldn't want him
Gibbs..... went nowhere due to excessive demands

So what offer did they make to counter these "excessive demands"?

Haggling. This is the start price, this reflects how important he is to us. Crows then make an offer below that, then there's the search for middle ground.
My understanding is that the Crows refused to haggle when Carlton held all the cards, and didn't follow protocol by announcing discussions with a player contracted to another club. If Carlton capitulated, they'd have weakened their hand at the trade table for every trade period following this, it would have indicated they were weak. It was up to the Crows to make it work, they should also have followed protocol.
Gibbs is one of our few stars and very important to us, hence we indicated early that he wouldn't be cheap.
The trade didn't happen because neither side were able to come to an agreement, I don't se why Carlton should negotiate soft for the Crows benefit.

That's just stupid really, no one really wins. Crows don't get a player wanting to come home, Gibbs doesn't get to come home and Carlton have a player that doesn't want to be there

If he really wanted to come home he would have said it openly that he would consider offers from both Adelaide clubs, this also helps Carlton if there is a bidding war, but obviously it was Crows or Carlton, so he dug himself a hole right there and Carlton called him on it, well played to them. Reid pissed them off on Day 1 when he was the one announcing it to the media, not Gibbs, his Manager or Carlton....Adelaide announced it, massive error.

Adds another name to the list of failures in Adelaide getting SA players back from interstate....

Agreed with GWS but with the Gibbs situation, I would have been angrier if we gave up two first rounders, it's the lesser of two evils and I'm not devo to lose Lyons. He's not a starting mid, he's a 18-22 depth midfielder, and we've got plenty of those. In saying that, would have liked him to stay. I liked him as a player

He's got a pony tail so I'd imagine he could put on quite a performance if he didn't get his own way.

Moot point, really, as Port were never in the market for that calibre of player.

Surely any time a player of that calibre comes up and your team has talent but is underperforming you would have to have an enquiry

Would have thought Port may have had some potential transfer bait in Hartlett and co

Would you have been happy with a Gibbs for Hartlett deal, reckon that would have suited both clubs and could have got done due to both sides not really wanting to have a disgruntled player on the books especially in the last couple of hours of trade week
