Port seem to have every 2nd player on long term contracts.

Lower than average Cripps said on 5AA tonight.
Was quite heated when questioned by Rowey and Bicks

Also spoke glowingly of the clubs ability to "break even" with today's trade.

Says it all, really.

And mega defensive - was quick to point out certain players on long contracts but gave nothing but spin re Lobbe & Harltett's long term contracts.
When further questioned about Hartlett, he ended up saying you'll have to speak to Hamish or Ken about that.
Came across unconvincing & a tad annoyed.

No one is going to make him an offer interstate.
He'll struggle to make your best 22 next year.

I didn't hear the interview but I guess we have to take his word for it.
I think it's more of who they have on long term contracts more so than how many.

Sounded like a guy very much under the pump.

If Port have a crap year in 2017 and Ken gets sacked, not going to be easy to attract a quality new coach without a first rounder in 2018.

As much as it pains me to say, with the exception of Brisbane, Port have the worst track record with recruiting etc.
At least Brisbane have the excuse of injuries to their big name recruits.

By recruiting do you mean bringing in players from other clubs or through the draft? If it's from other clubs, then I can't agree. Brisbane in the last 5 years have been appalling and we never even got close to taking a Fevola.

If you're saying through the draft, we've not been great at identifying talent, pretty hit and miss over the last 5-7 years. Wines, Wingard, Impey etc all successful but Shaw, Harvey and several others have not either lived up to their potential or we over rated the potential they had when we drafted them.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

A bit of column A, a bit of column B. I've maintained my stance for a couple of years that our 16th to 30th best players are one of the worst in the business.

Our top ten are potentially as good as anyone's and it's hard to compare the 31st to the rookies as they are generally work in progress.

Recruiting isn't a strong point when you look at players such as Toumpass and then when you players like Neade getting a regular guernsey it doesn't paint a good picture.

I think there's plenty to like about Impey, he keeps getting better................................and he keeps accidentally messaging me thinking I'm Jacob Surjan.

Our trade history is not bad, Schulz, Ryder, Ebert, Monfries, Polec, White, Hombsch, Dixon....they've all been additions that improved us.

Our talent identification and development isn't anywhere near as good as it should have been though, no doubting that.

89 goals in 3 years with us, what more do you want?

From a player over 6 foot that sits permanently in a pocket pretty much, a bit more, 2.6 tackles per game in that period does give him a little more credence.

2013: 24 games for 39 goals (1.6 per game) would think 2 p/g would be a pass. Take out his 7 goals against Geelong and it reads a fair bit slimmer.
2014: 17 games for 21 goals (1.2 per game) hmmm.
2015: 19 games for 23 goals (1.2 per game) I guess he's consistent.

He doesn't have any more to offer up the field, just my opinion of him.

30 goals a year for someone who plays 100% of their time when on the ground ain't a great return.
Not bad either but not great.

How have Ryder and Dixon improved you, you were 4th before recruiting them and finishing outside the 8 ever since you've had them.

Based on their non active trade period......I'd say the same as last year plus Ryder ;)
And if they get desperate....... add in Monfries.
