Re: Soooooo, how's this weather?
We were back on at 7pm, apparently one of the first as we are near Flinders Hospital and their generator back up was starting to fail, explains why during the hot summers when there are scheduled black outs we never get hit.
I work at Mt Barker and driving thru Kangarilla/Meadows/Echunga this morning there are many dams that are over flowing, going to be very ugly if it keeps raining all day.

Re: Soooooo, how's this weather?
Because our computer system shut down incorrectly last night we've been locked out all morning.
Got some egghead in Qld remotely trying to fix it but it's been 2 hours and no word.
Lots of Candy Crush and general internet browsing happening at the moment.
One of the reps had to come in and shower here because his place in the hills is still without power and water. He also cooked himself up a huge breakfast. Knowing him, I'm just imagining his family huddled over a small fire in their loungeroom, burning the furniture for heat, while he lives it up here.

I didn't have any candles just an LED lamp that whenever I turned it on would start flickering after about 5 minutes like the battery was dying or something so to preserve it was just sitting on the couch in complete darkness. Couldn't cook anything for tea as the oven is electrical so just sat there eating a packet of chips for tea in pitch black darkness. Fun times.
A state-wide blackout like that really puts things in perspective how much we rely on electricity and how the hell we as a species got by without it.

How do we get along without it? We take to social media and bitch and moan. Although the portion of us that have been camping before have a few tricks up our sleeves lol

The State Emergency Service says winds predicted to hit Adelaide this evening will be the strongest the city has ever experienced.
There's a chance the front will miss metropolitan areas, but it's severity has prompted authorities to urge workers to head home if possible.
Police Commissioner Grant Stephens asked people to stay off the roads unless their trip was necessary, and to exercise caution behind the wheel if they did venture out.
The Bureau of Meteorology says gusts could reach as severe as 140 km/h.

Bunkering down at the Hope Inn, hoping this cyclone will last a couple of days.

Hurricane Matthew in the Caribbean looking ominous. Many locals fearing the skull appearance is a deadly omen.

The skull is one thing, the 230kmp/h winds are another!

A state-wide blackout like that really puts things in perspective how much we rely on electricity and how the hell we as a species got by without it.
Down in Mt Gambier only one supermarket had a generator (Woolworths) and they were doing a roaring trade in food that did not need to be cooked.
They had run out of candles and matches by about 6.30pm.
Fortunately we had some candles and managed to borrow a lighter from one of the neighbours, so we could see what we were eating and drinking...
Overheard staff at Woolworths:,"What time are we closing tonight?"
Boss replied, "When the generator runs out of fuel!"
