I believe it was raised at the recent delegates meeting with only a handful of clubs supporting the motion of NOT wanting to play (namely the Old Scholars Clubs) with the excuse that the community clubs have fixed costs and they cannot afford to lose money by not playing a game of cricket. If you ask me they only have one vote and should not be dictating what occurs within the competition.

It was raised, and discussed. But as usual the ATCA brushed it aside. Ridiculous to be playing Test match weekend. The talk of loss of revenue for that day is astounding. What do clubs actually rake in for the first Saturday of a game? The delegates made it sound like it was a Country Footy GF type of revenue loss.. Give me a spell!

Typical rain. Haven't been many training days to get outside and have a good run around.

Doesn't a survey go out each year with this question in it?

It does.

But how closely they read it im not sure. Heyzer mentioned only 1 club (Old Iggies) raised an issue in the survey about it, yet I filled out our clubs survey and certainly raised it, as did the bloke I was sitting next to at the Delegates meeting also made the same remark that he raised it in the survey..

Yet there are some A1 clubs who hate the idea of having the weekend off for the Test. They loath the Old Col clubs for raising it each year. The argument is we play so little cricket due to 2 day games & pot luck with the weather in both wet and the association's conservative approach to hot weather.

What happens in other states and their community cricket competitions?

We play 21 days of cricket plus T20 comp.. Ample cricket

I understand the risk with weather etc, its part and parcel of the game. I personally don't see the point in playing on Test match Saturday. I pay more for my SACA membership to go to the test than I do my subs to play cricket, I am happy to sacrifice 1 day of cricket to enjoy the test, as do plenty of my fellow cricketing mates..

The entire Grade Competition including 1st Grade have the Test Match Weekend off which just shows how ridiculous the ATCA's decision to play on the Test Match Weekend is. Community Clubs having fixed costs is the biggest load of **** I've ever heard. Give us all a break!! What happens when games are rained or heated out? The minority of 'community' clubs are dictating how the competition is run and the rest of us have had a gutful. Don't be surprised if you see several sides not play on the Test Match Weekend in protest.

Get over it guys. It's a day night test with a pink ball. Will all be over by lunch on day 3.

Thanks....will be interesting to see if any of them end up playing A Grade. Haven't Para Hills lost quite a few A graders from last year?

How are the ovals/pitches looking for this weekend? I was speaking with a few curators over the past few days and they are worried about the impact of playing this weekend will have on the long term health of the wickets. They believe that due to the heavy rain and lack of sunlight, it has made it difficult to get an even coating of grass for the season ahead.

We were able to get on and have a trial hit Sunday. Depends how well your deck drains.

Definitely better to give the squares an extra week if they're struggling. It's a long season with lots of cricket. Would suck to have a draw to kick things off no doubt but having a low, inconsistent square for the whole season sucks more

Wandered past the square at Goodwood on the weekend (Sunday) and it didn't look promising with 6 days to round 1
