Do you think Burgoyne is a better player at Hawthorn than he was at Port?
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

He was one of the best players in the league at Port. Personally I think he is a great player in a great side.

How about Tom Harley? Captained his club and was a 2 time premiership player in those flags. Did he play his first game in 99 or 2000 for Geelong?

Burgoyne. I thought the Hawks were mad to take him, I thought his knees were rooted. He was great for Port and even greater for the Hawks.

Kind of a boring topic if it's just a question of who the best player to change clubs is. Far more to debate if it's about which players have made the biggest improvements since changing.

Any recruiter could have picked that Burgoyne, Judd, Ablett and Dangerfield would be good players once they were established stars, but not many thought Eddie Betts would become the player he has since moving. Josh Kennedy was traded to Sydney with McGlynn for a song and there have been a few blokes delisted entirely who have found success at a new club.

Might say a bit about the clubs medical departments aswell - I thought we'd seen the best of Burgoyne because of his knees. And Judd with his hammies I didn't think would be as good for as long as he was at Carlton.

Lol. Nothing wrong with posing the question, but as you saw it quickly ended up with a fairly clear consensus.

Mooney wasn't bad either....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Which one?
Of course Jason was recruited in the 90s but Cameron was recruited at the end of 99 for a 2000 debut, does that count?

Lake didn't hurt Hawthorns back half.

In fact, Hawthorn by far the best recruiters since 2000. Burgoyne, Gibson, Lake, Hale, Frawley, Gunston, McEvoy, Spangher. All come to the Hawks and bar Burgoyne who had one, become premiership players.

I think Burgoyne right now would have to be the best recruit since 2000.

Best Recruit since 2000

Post by bennymacca »

How the hell does Burgoyne automatically win it when both judd and Ablett (and probably danger) win Brownlows at their new clubs.

The only thing surprising about Burgoyne has been his longevity. He was a gun before that.

If it is purely best player than those other lads win. If it's most improved or something then guys like JPK, Ted Richards, Eddie Betts need to come into consideration. All Australians at their new clubs when nobody really expected them to get to that level

There's one measure in football, premierships and neither Judd or Ablett did that at their new clubs. Judd went home and Ablett whored himself for cash. JPK and Betts in that boat. Richards? Not sure you can mention him in the same breath as the others.

You reckon Burgoyne went for chicken feed?

JPK played 13 games in 2 years for Hawthorn, hardly "whoring himself out for cash" (or do you mean another boat?) He went for opportunity.

Betts came home too.

Richards is an all australian defender that went to sydney as a dud forward.

Im not saying burgoyne isnt a gun, but it sure does help he went to probably the best team ever. Means he could play on the outside a bit more rather than through the middle all the time, and that has helped prolong his career a ton.
