Crow fans,which one?

Postby Booney » Thu Aug 02, 2007 7:31 am

Was thinking last night.

It took Adelaide some time to realise the loss that Kane Johnson was to their structure, perhaps not all Crow fans, but most (IMO).

Now I see Scott Thompson as being in a similar mould, and playing a similar style, which made me think, which one would you prefer?

No doubt Johnson is nowhere the player with Richmond he was with Adelaide, and strangely,Thompson is better for Adelaide than (once again,IMO) he was for Melbourne.

So,Crow fans,which one?
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I was a big fan of Johnno - I think he is better than Thompson because his foot skills are better so he rarely turned it over - cue his pass to Jarman in the 97 PF that nearly snapped Jarmans hand back when we were 7 pts down...

Thompson is arguably a better in and under player but for the complete package I'd ratehr have Johnno.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Johnson was acting captain for some games for the Tigers this season so maybe has gone better there than we perceive

I was also a big Johnson fan - but also am a fan of Thompson. If I had to pick one it would be Johnson by a whisker

Thompson easily, can win his own ball in a tight contest, something Adelaide lacks and something Johnson couldn't do nearly aswell.

Agree with Johnson having the more reliable foot skills though.

Kane Johnson is shite what a girl. My granma could captain Richmond and has probably done so on a couple of occaisons this year. One of the softest players in the leauge. Adelaide got it right.

Only problem is, you can get him off his game by getting stuck into him. He will do undisciplined things and it does cost the team. But is a better player than Johnson overall.

Thompson is starting to come on as a quality player. I always thought Johnson was a great player pretty much from the start. When comparing him and Goodwin earlier in their careers I thought Johnson was the better player, but then injury struck and he moved to Richmond and Goodwin has overtaken him.

To answer your question, I think Thompson is a better player right at the minute and obviously has more value as a future prospect. But, I don't think Thomson has hit the heights Johnson did at this stage.

its gotta be Thompson because I reckon Johnson would've worn the power jumper if he had the same bet with Kane Cornes

I reckon Goodwin's always clearly been the better player of the two.

I don't believe Kane and Scotty are similar types of players.

Yes they are both play a midfield role, however in my view, they played a different role.

When Kane came to Adelaide, he started as a defensive midfield player, than moved to a wing, played more as an outside midfield link-man role

However Scotty, started as a HF, however now spends more time in the midfield, plays more as an inside midfielder

Scotty has been a HUGE get for the club, however you can't underestimate the loss of Stenglien and Johnson, both great footballers and exceptional leaders, these two players could of been the bridge between the Edwards / Roo / Goody generation and the Van Berlo / Knights / Douglas / Proplyzia generation

Thompson for me, although Johnson's reputation suffers from being captain at Richmond - it heightens expectations. He wouldn't get a sniff of the captaincy at any other club.
