I think some people think mass shootings have to be the same as a frenzy shooting.

What happened in Orlando is a frenzy shooting, where the perp storms in and fires til they can't fire anymore. Same as Columbine and Aurora.

In Sydney, it was a political hostage taking, that ending in a mass shooting. If someone shoots one person an hour for 4 hours. Thats still a mass shooting.

Plenty may not agree with this.. I don't care.. in fact don't even know what I say will make sense.. but things that give me the shits are the immediate media responses to the Orlando shooting.

What I mean is it seems Americans will never actually admit Americas are weird cats, always must be some reason or excuse - he was a terrorist, he was an extremist, we've heard ISIS are taking credit for it blah blah blah blah.. ok maybe he was all those things, but he's still a stupid weird cat American, and the problems surrounding the incident are real American problems i.e. gun laws, "high risk watch lists" etc.

Instead I feel like the buck has been passed to the "terrorist" basket, and instead of identifying ways to make their country safer, they lay all blame on extremists/muslims/terrorists etc.. fuelling a countries hatred and bias further against a religion/demographic, creating a greater problem.

Only got to read the crap on FB for instance with all the anti muslim posts, anti-halal, anti this and that.. and it's all getting worse IMO.

Why not just report "American kills 50 people in shooting spree" instead of adding a label/description with it that'll inherently fuel hatred towards a group?

When the Columbine massacre happened did the papers read "Two white teenagers go on killing rampage, believed to be Christians"?

Anyway, long winded and prob makes no sense to anyone lol

The fact that there's nothing linking him to extremist views, yet there are other theories of struggling with his own sexuality, yadda yadda.

At the end of the day, none of that matters. Knowing the reason why isn't gonna actually help anyone now.

not sure that removing guns from the law abiding would have changed this though. a bloke who has supposedly spent weeks planning this, "scouting" locations and planning on how to kill the most people, is all of a sudden going to change his mind because he cant legally get a gun? he would just get one illegally.

and saying that removing them from the law abiding makes them harder to get, in the US case, is bull. they have no records of who has what. make them illegal to own, and you have just pushed the millions of guns over there onto the black market. and the us government certainly doesnt have the cash for a buy back as we had here (not that the majority of americans would comply anyway)

its very easy to just say remove the guns. the reality is far from a one liner though

no its a comment on the 2nd Amendment it is in the constitution....So was the 18th Amendment but that was changed by the 21st Amendment.

They have to start somewhere to change the culture. Unfortunately as with most forms of legislation you have to make rules for the minority even though a majority do the right thing......

People don't want guns banned.

They want the restrictions on legal gun ownership tightened. People that legally obtain guns have nothing to worry about.

The only people that need to worry are the ones that know they aren't suitable to own one legally. They're the only ones that are going to miss out.

But, the amount of guns in the US is going to make it almost impossible to do anything about it now. That doesn't mean they shouldn't try to do things the right way though.

Sadly, in all reality, they're too far gone to drag back.

Our post-Port Arthur amnesty, buy back and tightening of gun control was made easier by the sheer weight of people who simply didn't own a gun or, more importantly, felt it was their right to do so.

There, I don't reckon they're a chance to get any sort of control back and while some might try ( Obama ) the NRA owns too many senators and congressmen to be, should I say, shot down.
