There was a time when a full round of games was played in SA if the State team were playing interstate.

Correct.
A full round of SANFL footy could have been played last Saturday.

Maybe this match needs to be left to an annual clash with the WAFL. At least they are similar to the SANFL in terms of being mostly non-AFL clubs/players. Playing the VFL in the Big V is like playing Port Adelaide Magpies in the prison bars.

Or just drop the concept altogether, OR, only pick South Australians to play in the side and represent the state?

Might weaken the unit, but wouldn't that truly reflect the "state" vs "state" rivalry?

If not, it's the SANFL v VFL, not SA v Vic. Big difference IMO.

I think state league vs state league is fine, provided players want to play, which it seems they do. Just that VFL has 5 of 15 genuine VFL clubs and is mostly a Reserves competition. The SANFL and WAFL each have two reserves sides, so their representative side is more a representative of the competition they play in at least.

I don't think any of the VFL side were AFL listed.

They weren't.
I think the point is probably 70-80% of the players in the VFL are AFL listed so it leaves a pretty small pool to choose from. Some of the players chosen are not even in their own clubs best 15-20

Meaningless Game really.

Perhaps play it under lights @ Norwood - 'State of Origin' Rules.

Can't see it surviving, personally - must've cost the SANFL Clubs plenty?

4K+ & it was free entry - disappointing

I would've gone before the reserves joined the league. We all had pride in the competition back then.
I still follow my club because it looks as though I just can't atop doing that. I like the odd moment when Westies or Souths do it for the underdogs. But the SANFL representative side currently lacks that bond that united us. We are no longer our own competition. The SANFL is just cosmetics for the AFL reserves now, and I have interest in the heritage clubs within it rather than the comp as a whole.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Get rid of it!!

I would rather see the SANFL clubs have an extra game and even if you make it a FREE ROUND to at least try generate some interest and new spectators to the competition.

See in today's News Limited publication Collins called for a SANFL v VFL game every year.....not sure how Western Australia feel about that

How about something different like they do in English Super League. Wait for a weekend free of AFL and play 4 SANFL games at Adelaide Oval making it a celebration instead of crap like this state game.
Game 1: Noon
Game 2: 2.30
Game 3: 5.00
Game 4: 7.30

(Crows and Power have a bye or play in the country or preferably are kicked out by then)

Yeah ive been saying for years i believe that should be round 1 of the season.

Free entry as well and give each club a part of the ground to try and generate and sell discounted memberships on the day.

Would be a great day out!

Try and have games where teams have some history or rivalry against one another eg,

Glenelg vs North
Sturt vs Norwood
West vs South
Central vs Eagles
